Primary 5A Weekly Update 28.8.20

Primary 5 have had another busy week where we have done lots of amazing work !

Writing – We wrote wonderful stories creating our own mythical beast using adjectives. Then we  described our beast’s personality, features and special powers. Finally we drew pictures of our beast using beautiful patterns and colour!

Numeracy –  We took the “Big Maths” challenge and tried to beat our scores from the previous week.  We have also been learning to order 3, 4 and 5 digit numbers from the smallest to the largest .

Health and Wellbeing –  This week we have been continuing our work on SHANARRI  and have been designing posters  showing what each indicator looks like, sounds and feels like.

Religious Education – Our class have been learning about the miracle of Fatima and designed beautiful sun pictures using a bright colours and spiral effect for our display.

It has been a  hardworking week and we have all managed to get on our class recognition board for respectful behaviour and fantastic work. We are looking forward to more challenges next week!

P7B – Happy To Be Back

Dear parents, we’re glad to be back and during this week we’ve been working hard and doing lots of fun activities.

Daily KM/Mile

Since our our return to school we have been out every morning at 10 am to complete the Daily Kilometre.  We are out whatever the weather so please remember to remind us to always bring a coat suitable for the Scottish weather. 4 laps of the playground is equal to 1 Km and 6 is equal to a mile.  The ‘New Usain Bolts’ of 7B, Brooklyn, Elias, Sasha, Adrian, Xavi and Finlay have even manged to sometimes complete 8 laps – 2 Kilometres.

Topic and Art

Our topic this term is The Rainforest and we have been learning about where in the world you find Rainforests and completing exciting art tasks for our display.

French

We’ve been playing new fun games to learn our French numbers and conversation topics – there have been many laughs at the Ca va? game.

Oskar

“I’m happy to be back at school with my friends!”

Numeracy

We like using the Qwizdom remotes as part of our mental maths lessons. They mean that everyone can answer all the questions, they are fun and easy to use. Elias likes trying to be the fastest to answer correctly.

P.E.

P.E. is now always outdoors unless the rain is far too heavy so remembering a waterproof jacket and to come to school in outdoor P.E. kit on Tuesdays and Thursdays is a must.  At the moment we are focusing on rules of different sports.

Neil

“I like Mr McGurn’s funny/weird jokes.”  (Thanks Neil, I think!)

And Finally…

We’re all delighted to be back at school and learning new things.  We are adjusting well to the new way of doing things and showing a positive approach to things.  Next week we will be giving our House Captain speeches and holding the elections via Teams.  Anyone who wishes to be a HC or HVC should bring in their speech by next Wednesday for the election on Friday.

Enjoy your weekend,

Mr McGurn & Primary 7B.

Learning Highlights from P4A

Miss Smith and Mrs Broadley are so proud of their class for settling into new routines and working so hard this week.  We are particularly proud of how well the pupils were able to describe what each well being indicator looked and felt like to them.

Highlights

Josh N: I really enjoyed doing our morning starter where we had to describe which type of teacher we would be using four adjectives.

Ronan: I am really enjoying our class novel ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’

Emily: I have liked  using the vowel house to help us use the correct spelling either in the middle or end of a word.

Primary 7A – Weekly Update

Primary 7a have been very busy with lots of learning taking place this week.  Here are a few of the children’s highlights:

Andrew said he enjoyed learning about the different layers of the Rainforest and Keedie liked finding out about the different animals that live in each layer.  The children should also be able to tell you where in the world you will find rainforests.

Temi has enjoyed making our class ‘compassionate and connected’ tree display.  This shows how we can support each other when things ‘shake our branches’ and who we can turn to, if we need to.

Everyone had fun playing outdoor games yesterday afternoon.  Israel’s favourite part was playing the game ‘Splat’.

Viktoria has enjoyed being creative in art and particularly liked making oil pastel animals.

Zuzanna liked hearing the entries in our class ‘Book of Kindness’.  We are pleased to report, that many of the children have been nominated for being kind this week.

Amelia has enjoyed challenging herself in Maths, where we have been learning about place value to 1,000,000 and multiplying large numbers by tens.

Today is Sarah and Israel’s birthday.  We also have Viktoria’s birthday on Sunday and Luke L’s on Monday.  We hope they all have a lovely time celebrating their special day!

P3B Learning this week

This week James and Emma enjoyed learning some Spanish introductions and can say how they feel in Spanish.  Fantastico!!!

Halli and Jude knew their times on the clock this week when they were practising and can tell everyone when it is O’Clock and Half Past!

We have been practising our letters from the alphabet and Maja wrote them very neatly in her jotter.  We also learned about different types of sentences and used this to write about our favourite toys.   Amelia wrote about her kitten toy and told everyone how it looked and felt.

For RE we learned about Guardian Angels and decorated a beautiful prayer about Angels.

Everyone is enjoying listening to The Twits by Roald Dahl and Fatima and Dylan think that it is very funny.

We are looking forward to more learning next week!

P2/1 Week Beginning 24.8.20

P2/1 have had a great week!  It has gone in very fast!  Here are some of the highlights according to your lovely children:

Paige liked using soft pastels to recreate a piece of art work called ‘Kandinsky circles’.  We used our fingers to move the colour around.  More hand washing in P2/1 but a lovely colourful final piece.

DaisyDee liked it when she won a prize for having glued her work into her new jotter the neatest.

Rebekah loved playing Hide and Seek in the playground with her friends this week at playtime.

Aiden enjoyed learning how to say ‘I like’ and ‘I don’t like’ in Spanish with Paula the puppet who joins us for our Spanish lessons.  We heard how P2/1 like many fruit and vegetables as part of our learning about being healthy.  We were reminded that we do not bring any strawberry or kiwi fruits or flavours into school as it makes some of our SJO family very sick.

Mrs Devlin’s highlight this week was when we did our story writing.  We examined a picture and wrote what we could see.  I was so impressed with how much the children remembered – beginning  sentences with a capital letter, using finger spaces, resting letters on the line, using a full stop at the end of the sentences and of course listening for their sounds within words and writing them done.  I could not of been prouder.

Our week in P3A

We met Captain Calm. when we are worried or excited he tells us to take deep breaths. (FG) We have been learning about different emotions, we sorted them into nice and not nice emotions. (BM) We learned about the Orange Cog with Mrs Dickie. (EM)

We coloured a jar and used glitter to show when its all over the place there are lots of things to think about. But when it settles the important things stay at the top and the other things settle down for us to think about later.(AS)

We talked about Buddy Bots. There was an angry one called Rusty and a friendly one called Blip helped him be happy. (ED) Rusty felt great because he got energy when he helped the other bots. (LM)

We have been learning about the time. When the small hand is between numbers it means its half past. (LM)

We have done different writing. I enjoyed puting flicks on my letters. (FF) We also have fun with lego. (BD)

A great week altogether, exploring time and counting in sequences. Good work everyone.  Remember PE kit on Monday.

P4b

This week in Primary 4B we got to go on the laptops and use them to help our learning. Some of us were able to go on to Prodigy. We made emoji’s and shared our feelings.

We learned spelling patterns and today we had our first spelling test. We have been doing Big Maths Beat That to get quicker at our mental maths. We also are doing a Magic Number Challenge every morning. The worst thing is we couldn’t go our to PE or Outdoor Learning on Tuesday because of Storm Francis. But on Thursday we had PE outside and are doing skipping to try to get fitter.

P4B

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Good morning everyone, hooray we have all completed one full week in Primary 4. This week I have been getting to know your lovely children some appear confident and happy, some are feeling a little anxious. Gradually, we have been easing back in to school life and learning new routines that will keep everyone as safe as possible.

Best days of the week so far appear to be Tuesday and Thursday as they have outdoor PE with Mrs Lafferty and Outdoor Learning in the afternoon with myself and a support assistant. Over the next few weeks we will be weeding the school garden area at the back of the school and bringing it back to life. It would be excellent if you could allow your child to bring in Wellington boots or old shoes which you don’t mind getting them muddy, they will bring them home each day as we can’t store them at school.

We are also making a great effort to get academic learning back at the appropriate level to build the learning confidence of all the children in our class. We have already carried out spelling, reading and maths assessments with a few more assessments to be carried out next week.

Primary 4 are hoping to set up homework through teams in the next few weeks but I want to build the children’s confidence using the system before we use it for homework purposes. By the end of August they will be in a reading group and their reading book will go home with them.  I am hoping over the next few weeks that the children will be able to post a weekly blog to let you all know their favourite learning activities and how they are feeling.

Thank you for sharing your lovely children with me this year, I hope they will have a wonderful learning adventure in Primary 4.

The children have made a fantastic start to the year, adapting well to their new environment and quickly taking on board the school rules of being ” ready, respectful and safe!”

Art – Primary 5 A completed personality swirls using bright colours and intricate patterns. They chose various adjectives to describe their individual personalities.

Maths – We have been learning about place value and the value of individual digits in particular numbers. We have also been partitioning numbers. Primary 5 had a lot of fun completing their first ” Big Maths” challenge where they answered times tables questions in a set time.  The children will try to improve on their performance each week.

Writing– The children completed a piece of writing entitled ” All About Me” which described their strengths as a learner, hopes for Primary 5 and aspirations for the future!

Health and Wellbeing– Primary 5 have been participating in activities and class discussions based on the Health and Wellbeing Indicators of being safe, healthy, active, nurtured, achieving, respected, responsible and included.

I am very pleased with positive start that P5A has made. Watch this space next Friday afternoon for our learning highlights from the week beginning 24th August !
