Our week in P1B

We have had another great week in P1B. We are all getting used to our daily routines and continue to show how to be Ready, Respectful and Safe.

This week we have had tickly lips from all our fantastic learning of our first sound ‘m’. We have enjoyed learning to form a ‘m’ and thinking of words that begin and end with the ‘m’ sound.

Our focus this week has been on the numbers 3 and 4. We have been trying really hard to form these correctly and enjoyed watching the Numberblocks.

Ogilvie Bear shared with us things he can do and we came up with a sentence. We all did so well remembering a full stop. Next week we are going to try to write our own sentence about what we can do.

We all loved reading the story of ‘The Invisible String’ and talking about the people we love and care for. We were excited to colour in our hearts, one to keep in school and one to give to someone at home, so that we are always connected to them.

Scott: I liked making m in foam.

Kacper: I liked playing with Lego.

Matthias: I liked playing games with my friends.

Ella: I liked playing with the dragon.

Ksawery: I liked drawing.

Daniel: I liked playing with Lego.

Please look out next week for our new Virtual Classroom, which will be shared with you here on the school blog.

Have a lovely restful weekend!

Over and Above Reward – Hot Choc at Home!

Due to current circumstances, we are unable to have our Milkshake Monday reward for those pupils in each class who go over and above each week.  We did not want the children to miss out on this recognition and so we would like to introduce Hot Choc at Home.  Each week, class teachers will choose their Over and Above Reward winner who will then bring home a reward bag complete with wristband, pencil, certificate and a sachet of Hot Chocolate for them to be able to enjoy at home.  We are very proud of our first winners who are:

P1: Pola and Amelia

P2/1 and P2:  Markuss and Nell

P3:  Nikola

P4:  Marriah and Summer

P5:  John and Connor

P6:  Is-Haaq and Emily

P7:  James and Xavi

Our Week 04/09

We met Agent Grateful.

She told us that when we feel sad we can think of happy memories to make us feel better. (IS) We should always remember to be grateful for what we have. We drew who we were grateful for on a leaf (ED), and made a gratitude tree. We have used our sensory jar to help us remember is important for now and what we can deal with later.(ED)

On Monday, we had no rain and had some sun for our PE. (EM)

With Mrs Dickie we learnd about the green cog which is about how our body looks or feels with different emotions. (EM) Last week we thought of 15 emotion words for the orange cog and this week we thought of 40! (AS) Mrs Dickie used the characters from Inside Out and we learned about how they felt. (LM) She also read the story, Marvin gets mad. (EM)

We have been learning about different ways to add and find answers. (IS) We were learning to count different parts of numbers and put them together again. (JD) Partitioning. We also have been talking about doubles and halves. (AS)

We did some work with common words and reading with Mrs Garvin. (FF) We made spelling flowers with the common words. (FF)

We practised saying hola in Spanish.

P2/1 Week Beginning 31.8.20

P2/1 have had a busy week!  I can hardly believe it is the end of the week already!  Here are our highlights:

Layla liked revisiting our learning about the church this week.  We looked at photos of St Peter’s Church and Fr Simon.  We heard how much Fr Simon loved God from a little boy and wanted to teach everyone his love for us.  He trained to become a priest at a special place called a ‘Seminary’ when he was an adult.  We practised genuflecting (kneeling with our right knee and blessing ourselves with our right hand) before sitting in our seat.  We know to do this when we next go to mass.

Chiji reported how his favourite part of the day is tidy up time.  He likes to put everything back in its special place after ‘choosing time’ and get a coin for his treasure chest as a reward!

Daniel enjoyed learning about how we can communicate our feelings through art.  We looked at some abstract art and how the choice of colour used by the artist and the brush strokes can show their feelings.  We created our own feelings art and had the class guess what feeling we were trying to communicate.

Mia has loved maths this week.  We have been finding missing numbers on the 100 square and have revisited addition.  We explored different strategies to find the answer.  Mia shared how she puts the biggest number in her head and counts on.  Good strategy Mia!

Mrs Devlin’s highlight this week was listening to a story about super heroes and how sometimes they feel sad, angry or worried.  The super heroes taught us different things we can do to calm our bodies and minds.  We can: take 5 deep breaths, dance/listen to some music, do some art, exercise, go outdoors and be in nature, eat healthy food and drink enough water and the one that Mrs Devlin liked the best – use our words and tell a trusted adult how we are feeling so they can help us.  We will continue to learn about our feelings over the coming weeks as part of our new topic ‘The Body’.

Primary 1B Weekly Update 28th August 2020

It has been another busy week in P1B.  In Literacy we have been working on beginning, middle and end.  We looked at animals in a line waiting on the farmer and had to identify if they were at the beginning, in the middle or at the end of the line.  We also lined up and identified who was in what order.  The story this week was called ‘In My Heart’ it was a story about how our heart has lots of feelings and emotions.  We then coloured a heart to show how we were feeling.

This week we got to use our writing books.   We were so excited.   We did some wonderful writing about what we like and love.  We drew a picture and tried very hard to write our sentence.  Mrs Meikle and Mrs Russell are very proud of us.  They said we were “writing super stars”!

We have been introduced to some Number Zoo characters Penguin Number One and Ticklish Two (a swan) these characters have helped us learn how to form our numbers correctly.  We also looked at Number Block 1 and 2.

We looked at the months of the year and tried very hard to remember what month our birthday is in.  We then made a birthday class for our class birthdays.

We have been enjoying lots of play activities again this week.  The Marble Run and the Construction Toys have been very busy and lots of us have enjoyed role playing in the shop.

In gym we have been learning about spatial awareness we had to move forewords and backwards and side to side without bumping into our friends.

This week we shared our comments:

“I like playing and making new friends” Ella

I love school because I like everything” Scott

“I like doing pencil work” Flynn

“I like to do writing and drawing” Haadiya

“I like school” Ksawery

“I like drawing” Georgia

“I love playing with Buzz” Rowan

“I like school” Nicolas

Have a great weekend everyone and we look forward to seeing you again on Monday.  Keep safe.

P6 Weekly Update

Another busy week in Primary 6!

The children have been working hard and produced fantastic work they would like to share with you.

Literacy: They have been using adjectives to describe nouns. They have written descriptive sentences and identified the adjectives within their work. They also completed a spelling test at the end of the week.

Maths: This week we continued to work on addition and subtraction. We looked at a variety of different strategies and discussed what works best for each child. Charlotte liked using the ‘Column method’ to work out her answers and Taha liked using the ‘Blank number line’ method.

Art: We enjoyed creating self-portraits and learning about the proportions of the face. P6B enjoyed working as part of a team to create artwork together.

Health and well being: We completed our well being check-in online this week and we have been learning more about each of the SHANARRI indicators and what the look like in our lives by creating posters.

Take care and have a great weekend,

Mrs Roy and Mr Pentland!

Primary 1A Weekly Update 28th August 2020

Another great week of learning in P1A!

This week we have been learning about first, middle and end. We had to listen carefully and say where we heard the sound. We thought the naughty camel sound was very funny!

In maths we have been learning to write the numbers 0, 1 and 2. We have all been trying really hard to make sure we start at the right place. Every day we have practised counting to 20, starting at different numbers.

Miss Stebbing was very proud of us this week as we did some great writing. We were all able to say a fantastic sentence about something we liked then tried hard to write this in our jotters.

We have been enjoying lots of different activities to practice our skills. The magnetic tiles have been popular this week. Also, the creative zone has been busy. We have a new role play area, a pizza shop, where lots of orders were being placed. However, there were a few complaints about the pizzas taking taking a long time! We have given Miss Stebbing a list of things we would like to add to the shop.

Our book this week was ‘The Invisible String’. We have been missing our families when we are at school so this book has helped us to know that we are connected by a string made of love. We made 2 hearts, one for home and one for school. We know we can give our invisible string a tug to help us when we are missing our families. We brought the heart home today.

We added a few things to our emotions wall and learned about the emotion works orange and yellow cogs.

Have a great weekend everyone!

P1A and Miss Stebbing

P5B – WB 24.08.20

Dear readers,

We hope you have had a fantastic week!

This week, in Maths and Numeracy we have been learning about ordering 4 and 5 digit numbers and we got some tricky exercises to work on!

We have been reading ‘Billionaire boy’ by David Walliams and got to do a summary of what we have read so far. We have also been answering questions about it. It is a tricky but interesting book with very difficult words and lots of hidden jokes. We have chosen as our word boost words from the book for this week the following words: dolefully, defiantly, suppress, protested and audition. Do you know what they mean?

Our writing session this week has been about describing and writing about our own ‘fantastic beasts’, which we also had to draw. We had to write four different paragraphs to do that and it was very interesting. One of the paragraphs included a description of their name, age, and gender. Our last paragraph was a conclusion which included our feelings about our own beast.

Most of us have now finished our beautiful  ‘All about ourselves swirls’ that tell people about our personality.

Because of our learning on the ‘Miracle of Fatima’, we followed a tutorial to create our own dancing suns and they turned out to be amazing!

Once again we have learned about the SHANARRI wheel and we have discussed how we feel about each one of the things in it: Safe, Healthy, Active, Nurtured, Achieving, Respected, Responsible and Included.

We have carried on doing our ‘Big Maths, Beat that’ which we have been doing since Primary 4 and we are really good at it!

We have also completed our spelling assessments and are hopeful that we are going to get really good results!

We watch ‘Newsround’ every day and Mrs Valente always asks us questions about it and gives us points or a recognition board sticky note when we get them right!

We hope you have had a good time reading about what we have learned in school and wish you a nice weekend!
