P4B Highlights 17.01.2025

We have had a great and busy week this week. We have been discussing how people need family and friends so they don’t get lonely. We read through the Creation story to see how God created all the things that we need and that the world needs to continue to grow and be amazing. We talked about how its ok to rely on our friends for help and that its important to be grateful for our family.

We have started looking at reading and working out the time. It was really useful to have been practising our 5 tmes tables!

We are looking at and developing our money skills and have had lots of practice with subtraction to be able to work out costs and change.

As part of our writing we listened to Michael Morpurgo’s story ‘Coming Home’. We are exploring the different stages of the story. This is the short version that a supermarket used for an advert a few years ago.

We went to Mass today and the whole class was amazing. Fr Clement said we were all perfect.

Hot Choc at Home winners- 10th Jan – Blair  17th Jan – Safaa

We were sad to say goodbye to Safaa today but we know she will soon have lots of new friends at her new school.

Have a great weekend!

P5B Week Beginning 13th January 2025

Hello families of P5B!

This is our 2nd post of the week.  I hope you enjoyed the pictures from our school trip to Bannockburn on Tuesday.  Here are our highlights this week as recorded by the Red table:

Cohen has been enjoying maths this week.  He especially liked the lessons when we multiplied 4 digit numbers by 1 digit.  We discussed the importance of layout so that the correct answers would be placed in the correct place value column, otherwise we will get the wrong answer.

Olek reports also enjoying maths.  For World Logic Day (we had to celebrate it the following day due to our trip) we did some Sudoku puzzles.  We started off with 4 by 4 ones until the children grasped the idea then progressed to 6 by 6 and some children challenged themselves with 9 by 9!  Impressive work everyone!

Rowan, who is a lover of all things to do with the Scottish Wars of Independence, said that the trip to Bannockburn was his highlight.  His favourite part?  Sitting at the back of the bus!

Kacper liked the step by step instructional drawing of the polar bears that the class did.  This linked to our Free Writing Friday story about a polar bear which will in turn link to a near future information report we will examine about one.  They look amazing!

Scott recounts how the best part of his week was completing the Bleep Test with Mrs Lafferty.  He was proud of his results.

Moeez liked the French lesson with Miss Smith were they continued with their learning of greetings.

Matthias’ highlight was our lesson about Robert Burns.  We learned about his life, what inspired his poems and we examined one in detail called, ‘To a Mouse’.  A big thank you to our P6 helpers Matteo and Jude for helping us with this.  These boy confidently explained the meaning of the poem.  Afterwards we went to the woods to find inspiration in nature for poems we will write next week.  Matthias thought that the ‘True or False’ warm-up game about Burn’s life to be very enjoyable.  Some children took it in turns to read out statements and the class had to stand in the ‘True’ or ‘False’ side of the room.  We were DELIGHTED to hear that he wrote a poem about the Battle of Bannockburn!

My highlight was our RE lesson continuing on from last week about our conscience and asking for forgiveness.  We listened to the Bible story about Creation and Adam and Eve.  The children were astounded to learn that their actions in the Garden of Eden, when they ate the apple, led to sin and suffering entering the perfect world that God created for us.  We discussed being accountable for our sins (as Adam tried to blame Eve) and how we are forgiven through the death of Jesus on the cross.  We discussed again about examining our conscience and asking for forgiveness and asking God to help us try again to be better friends, better Christians, better sons and daughters…….This is the good news, that we will be forgiven and God remembers those sins no more.  We can start again, try again.  This was a very memorable and special lesson.

Congratulations to our hot chocolate award winner Vinayakarthik and Cohen, our Reading Champ!

This week in P1

We have has a fun week this week in P1, there has been lots going on.

Our highlight of the week was making our robots. Everyone had the chance to build a robot any size or shape that they liked. They did such an amazing job on them.

Continuing with the theme of robots, we learned about what an algorithm is and came up with our own set of commands to direct an animal to a specific place.

We wrote about a our bedtime routine, well done to our Star Writers – Alfie, Ronak, Emilio and Franek who used their sounds and knowledge of sentences so well to make super sentences.

In math this week we continued our learning on subtraction by counting out objects to find our starting number and then taking a number of objects away to find out the total that were left.

Today we celebrated 100 days of school! We were all very excited to arrive into school to a banner and streamers over the door. We started the day colouring in and cutting out our own ‘100 days smarter’ hat to wear and then had so much fun counting 100 cheerios to make a 100 day necklace. We are super proud of all our P1’s and so to celebrate 100 days, we had a 100 day snack.

W/E 17/01/2025

Welcome families of P4A

This week P4A have been working hard throughout all of their tasks. For the new term, I have attached the term overview, highlighting all areas that we will cover in both P4A and P4B. You can find this on the post above.

Throughout the week pupils have explored a new topic of data analysis. Throughout data analysis, pupils have been learning how to interpret numerical data and create their own ways of displaying data.

In literacy, pupils have been exploring some Scots language. Here they have read some famous poems written by Robert Burns and have translated some of the everyday words we know into Scots. Pupils have created sentences, substituting the English words for Scots and are gaining a solid understanding of this.

Building Thinking Classrooms is continuing to be utilised in order to boost pupil’s problem solving abilities. It too, boosts communication, team work and allows pupils to challenge themselves. This is becoming an integral part of our daily routine in class and pupils are excelling their skills.

Pupils really enjoyed the bread experiment that they carried out on Thursday with Mr Pentland and cannot wait to see what results come in the next few weeks! They are testing the importance of hygiene and are developing their understanding of why we should always ensure we have clean hands.

P4A have enjoyed lots of technology time this week as they have researched Scottish cities, landmarks and famous Scots. Pupils displayed their information that they gathered of our new IDL focus on PowerPoints. Some children volunteered to showcase their work to the class which was very informative! Well done.

On Wednesday, the weather was lovely so we spent our time for PE outside playing lots of games and having fun! We had some relay races, football and dance. Pupils took the lead and were able to show off their own talents and skills. They each took groups and held mini lessons in the playground. Well done Primary 4, this was a great lesson had by all.

Some pupil highlights of the week;

Hasika – “I enjoyed the Robert Burns work and reading the poems he wrote”

Vivien- “I loved taking my mini stretching/dance lesson with some of the class when we were outside for PE”

Jack- “I liked when we went out for football at the end of the day with Mr Pentland”

Ethan- “I liked making my own PowerPoint about the Loch Ness monster, I am really getting better with my technology skills”

Jiade- “I like our new work we did in maths. I liked making the bar charts”

Our new reading champion for the next two weeks is Zion. Well done for always reading amazingly Zion!

Our hot chocolate winner of the week goes to Jack. Keep up all of your hard work! Well done.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone!

P5B Visit Bannockburn

We hope you enjoy the pictures below that have captured the fantastic learning experiences your child had on today’s trip to Bannockburn.  As you may know, the children were learning about The Scottish Wars of Independence earlier in the school year.  It was great to witness how much information they could remember which is a reflection on how enthusiastic they were when learning about their country’s history.  Well done to P5!  👏👏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 A big thank you you our parent helpers who were invaluable today, Moeez’s mum and Suhanth’s mum.
