Mr Johnstone and Mr Whelan visit P6/7
Thank you to Mr Johnstone and Mr Whelan who visited us yesterday and gave us some interesting information and amazing facts about Shale mining and what it was like to be a miner. It was really interesting to hear what it was like to work in those conditions. We’re glad we don’t have to go mining today but we’re proud to hear about our heritage in this area. They also gave some information about the Burngrange Disaster. It was a really great afternoon.
Titanic Shoebox Homework Challenge for P3 P4 and P5!
Today every child in P3 P4 and P5 were given an empty shoebox to design a passenger cabin from the Titanic. They can use just about anything from recycled items /lego/bricks/items from around the house to recreate what their passenger cabin would have looked like in 1912. We are doing lots of research in school to help with this and the completed boxes are due back in school on Monday 20th February which gives the pupils lots of time to collect items they want to include inside their box-good luck and have fun!
Construction on Titanic begins today….
In our passenger groups we each had a task to build a separate part of the Titanic ship ready for launch this afternoon. We found out many facts about the various levels on board it was great to see everyone cooperating so well in P3/4 and P4/5 today-well done!

Profiling week in P4/5 has been very busy….
We have been setting our Literacy and numeracy targets on post it notes to remind us what we need to improve on this term .We have been filming our targets using an app called Flipgrid so we can review our targets using the mini pads in class and therefore building our digital learning skills too in P4/5!
Keeping fit and problem solving on our mile today…
While keeping fit and active money rolled out of a pocket and under the school fence !Luckily the girls worked together and they came up with a plan to solve their problem !
Chicken fajitas p4/5 cook school today…
Ruby said this was the best recipe she had tasted and Julian agreed he loved it !Liam said he would love to make this for the Grieve family this weekend !
Snapshot of This Week’s Learning
In Maths, the children have been counting on in twos and learning the two times table. They have also been making shapes and working hard on their Space topic.
Primary 2/3
P2/3 have been learning all about how rockets take off and land. They have also been looking at and talking about the well being wheel.
Primary 3/4
The children have been learning about The Titanic and working very hard practising their times tables.
Primary 4/5
P4/5 have been working hard on number talks and problem solving in Maths this week. They have also been looking at and discussing the rooms on The Titanic.
Primary 5/6
P5/6 have had a tobacco awareness workshop this week which talked about second hand smoking. They learned in stays in houses for 5 hours!. The have also been working hard creating descriptive writing based on Harry Potter.
Primary 6/7
This week P6/7 have been deciding and talking about what they need to work on and creating their own targets. While working on profiles, they have also really enjoyed talking about the 50 things to do before you leave Primary School. During topic work for Harry Potter, everyone in class designed, created and wrote about a wizard or witch!
