Our Lady of Lourdes Feast Day

Happy Our Lady of Lourdes Feast Day on Saturday, the 11th of February. Try and take the time to think about how much Our Lady helps us and looks after us and remember to be proud that you go to a school which has such a special lady as their Patron Saint. Thank you Our Lady for all that you do for us. We look forward to celebrating our Feast Day Mass when we come back to school next Wednesday!

Snapshot of this week’s learning

Although this has been a shorter week and we are all looking forward to our break, there has been plenty learning going on in Our Lady of Lourdes this week. Here are just a couple of examples from each class.

Primary 1/2

P1/2 have been learning about how to stay safe when using the internet and in Numeracy, have been working hard on adding and taking away.

Primary 2/3

In Numeracy P2/3 have been looking at time and in other areas, have been learning about the planets, and in particular, Saturn.

Primary 3/4

P3/4 learned The Lord’s Prayer and about passengers on board The Titanic.

Primary 4/5

P4/5 have been learning how to plat the F chord on the ukulele during Music time with Mrs Lang and have been working on algebra in Numeracy work.

Primary 6

Most of our P6’s have been at school camp this week. Between zip wires, team challenges and mountain biking, a great time was had by all.

Primary 5/6 and Primary 6/7

Primaries 5, 6 and 7 spent much of the week talking about how to stay safe on Social Media and in Gaming sites to mark Internet Safety Day this week. They created posters to highlight the message. Some of the issues raised were very interesting and very important. The class also worked together to create a fifth house for Hogwarts. The ideas were fantastic! J.K. Rowling might be wishing she had asked them before picking the four houses in her Harry Potter novels!

Phew! No wonder we need our break!!

I’ve been lucky enough to work with two classes this week on Internet Safety.  Primary 1/2 loved Lee and Kim’s Adventure with a very important message about keeping safe and we even made puppets which will be used for further work next week.  P4/5 worked with me on ‘Smart Thinking’ when we are using our devices and completed an activity which involved making the correct decisions.  We all learned ALOT 👍🏻

A few dates for your diary

There are a few important dates coming up next week. Our Lady of Lourdes Feast Day is the 11th February which is Saturday. As we are unable to celebrate as a school this week, we will be attending Mass at 9:30am on Wednesday 15th February to celebrate Our Lady of Lourdes. As always, everyone is invited to join us. Thursday 16th February is the day that school photographs, both individual and family groups will be taken by Tempest and to conclude the week, Friday 17th February is a dress down and fun day to celebrate our feast day. We hope you find these dates for your diary useful.

Everyone was given a homework challenge several weeks ago to create a Titanic Cabin in a shoebox! All pupils were given a box and have done research in class and their own passenger groups to discover what various cabins would have contained. Some pupils have already returned their challenges to school and they are looking amazing ! Mrs Gavin,Ms Robertson and Mrs C will be displaying all the cabins in our Titanic Corridor to let the school community share our learning…….

Internet Safety Day in P6/7

We spent a lot of time talking about the dangers we might face using the internet. We discussed X Box Live, Facebook and Cyber Bullying. With the help of the information we gained from the ThinkUKnow website, we produced posters to make people aware of the dangers of using the internet and how we can stay safe. These are our top 5 tips:

  1. Do not give anyone personal details like your password or where you live.
  2. Don’t meet up with people you don’t know.
  3. If anything horrible does happen, tell a trusted adult straight away.
  4. Make sure all your settings are private.
  5. Only talk and reply to people you know and trust.
