P3/4 This week

This week in Maths we have continued to develop P3’s understanding of adding tower sums with carrying over to the next column (H,T,U).  P4 have continued to develop their understanding of multiplication and have now started the 3 times table – would benefit them to continue to revise 2, 3, 5, and 10.  In Literacy we continued our reading and reading activities in class, we also revised our sounds and Kung Fu punctuation. During French we practised the phrases we already knew and started to learn about birthdays, months and seasons.

In our new topic – Famous Scots, we have investigated some famous people from history and gathered information using the ipads.  We are learning how to use Power point and starting to put together presentations on some of the famous people.  We will eventually present these in class.

We are very proud of ourselves for our performances at the Carol Concerts, as we all worked hard learning the song; 12 Days of Christmas, and had fun singing this in class – even when we weren’t practising officially!  We also enjoyed our Christmas lunch and our parties!

Faith – I enjoyed the party.

Sophie – I enjoyed doing our new topic.

Brooke and Chloe – I enjoyed singing the 12 Days of Christmas.

Ellsie – I enjoyed making the Christmas cards.

Daisy – I enjoyed the tower sums.

Olivia – I really liked using the Learning and Reflection Diary.

Kyran – I enjoyed singing We Wish you a Merry Christmas.

Logan – I enjoyed watching the Christmas movie!

Meeting an author during book week!

At the weekend, the end of book week, Miss Robb traveled through to Glasgow to a book signing by Tom Fletcher.

Tom Fletcher is 1/4 of the band McFly (which Miss Robb is a fan of) but he has also wrote a few children’s books with his band mate Dougie Poynter. P2/3 enjoyed reading ‘The Dinosaur that pooped a planet!”.

However Tom Fletcher has just published his first children’s novel ‘The Christmasaurus’. P2/3 are very excited to start reading the story and Tom said he hopes we enjoy it! Im sure we will!

AAL team to the rescue!

Mrs Conaghan was very kind to come into P2/3 class and read them a story about ‘Scaredy Squirrel’ on EPIC.

P2/3 loved the story and wanted to be able to use EPIC to find more stories about scaredy squirrel. Very kindly the AAL team from P4/5 came in to show us how to use EPIC on the ipads. They helped us to set up our profiles, choose what books we liked and how to read them.

Thank you AAL team!

Growth Mindset Feedback

P2/3 created squirrel pictures using Autumn leaves from outside for their tails. We were really proud of our squirrels and so we took them to show Mrs Conaghan and P4/5.

We then took part in a feedback session about what we did really well with our squirrels and what we could try to do next time. Using their own feedback, some pupils in P4/5 then went on to try and make their own squirrel pictures also using leaves and came to show us in P2/3.

All squirrels now share our Growth Mindset feedback tree which is in Miss Robb’s P2/3 class.

Dont they look great!

Trying Thursday Health Week P2/3………

Our word for the week in P2/3 is “try”. This is to encourage us to try our best at all the activities we are doing this week and also relates to growth mindset which we have been learning about this week.

Yesterday we had the police come and talk to us about being safe on bonfire night.

We also had fun in music with Mrs Lang learning songs about being healthy and also practicing songs for our St Andrews Assembly later this month.

We also had a lot of fun trying kurling for the first time and everyone was really good and worked well in their teams!

We also took on a squat challenge at the start of the week. Using flower by Moby (song) we have to squat when the song says ‘down’ and stay squatting until the song says ‘up’. We managed the whole song yesterday! Watch a short clip of us doing it below:

P3/4 Thursday……..

Today we had Judo in the Hall.  We also continued to learn about Growth Mindsets and healthy eating.  At the end of the day we watched a clip of how to tie laces!  Tomorrow we are going to try to tie our laces ourselves and for those of us who know how to tie them, we have a challenge to tie them in 1 second.
