P 5/4 Tesco trip.

On Monday P 5/4 were lucky enough to be invited ‘backstage’ into our local Bathgate Tesco store. Our topic this term has been ‘Farm to Fork’ and during our visit we were learning about where the food that we eat comes from and how it ends up in the store. While we were at the store we were given the opportunity to make some of our own bread, try some exotic fruits and cheese and we also held some fish. We learned lots of information about where all of the food comes from and where it is stored when it is in the store. We all had a fantastic day and these are some of our favorite highlights of the trip.

Jack – ‘Trying the different types of cheese and I liked the pineapple.’

Sara – ‘We got to hold some fish.’

Derek – ‘When we got to try all the different kinds of fruit.’

Cara -‘Getting to go into the staff room.’

Summer S -‘I liked going into the fridge and freezers, it was freezing.’

Kirsty – ‘Everything that we learned about Farm to Fork.’

Amy -Leigh – ‘When we went into the bakery, because we got to see what they do to make bread.’

Aaron – ‘I liked holding a little squid.’

Summer B – ‘We got to try lots of different types of fruit and where they all came from.’

P7/6 News

Dear Parents and Carers,

P7/6 have had a fantastic week so far! We have taken part in 3 different workshops which have all been fantastic. On Monday the children took part in a Drama workshop, led by Miss Kathryn Smith. Kathryn is a drama student studying at Queen Margaret University. She is in her fourth year and writing her dissertation on the effects of drama within the curriculum. She has come to Murrayfield to focus her research on our class and is planning on teaching drama through our topic as well as Numeracy and Literacy. Her first lesson was on The Wedding of Mary Queen of Scots to her first husband in France. The children loved her French accent and she really captured the mood and hustle and bustle of a busy wedding day. Please make sure you have completed the letter Kathryn has sent to all parents so your child can continue taking part in Kathryn’s lessons.

On Thursday the P6’s took part in their Tobacco workshop while the P7’s took part in their Drugs and Alcohol Workshop. The children found out some interesting facts and shared their knowledge of their topics in a calm and safe environment.

Also on Thursday, p7/6 took part in their first music workshop, led by Limehouse Music. This was an amazing opportunity for the class to take part in fun musical improvisations, along with singing, drama warm ups and learning African dances to a drum and guitar. The workshop was absolutely fantastic and the class cannot wait for the next one in a few weeks.

Lastly, a date for your diary. P7/6’s assembly on Scottish Book week will be on Friday 1st December. Please come along to watch your child participate in this fun event.

Have a nice weekend!

Miss Moir

Jack – ‘It was fun when you had to try get your partner.’

Amy- Leigh – ‘I enjoyed learning something new.’

STV Children’s Appeal Live Show

As Murrayfield Primary worked so hard during our bikeability to raise money for the STV Children’s Appeal, we were given a couple of tickets to go along to their LIVE SHOW on Friday. Very exciting!

Two of our House Captains, Lara and Aarin, who worked so hard during our Bikeability Week were picked out a hat as the lucky representatives of our school.

They attended the Live Show at the RBS Conference Centre along with Miss Macrae and myself. We had a wonderful time seeing how some things work for live tv (you need to wait around quite a lot!) and enjoying the different entertainment they provided for us.

Lara and Aarin were able to present the cheque for the entire “Sean Batty Back to School” section of fundraising. He didn’t know how much it was so they had to keep it a surprise!

If you go on STV Player and watch the 9pm STV Children’s Appeal show from Friday, at about 20 minutes in you can see our claim to fame.

Well done Lara and Aarin! You were calm and professional the whole evening, taking everything in your stride and being wonderful representatives of Murrayfield Primary. You should be very proud!

Primary 5 visiting the Woman’s Social Service Club

Primary 5 were learning to play New Age Kurling with the Woman’s Social Service Club at the Community Centre.

First, we got split into 4 teams. There were 4 ladies on each team with our class.

We had to slide the kurling stones towards the mat. We got a number of points depending on what we landed on.

Team 3 were the winners because they had the highest score.

We had a break mid-way through when we were kindly given sweets and water from the ladies.

We were very excited and we loved playing with the ladies.

Thank you very much for having us!
