P2/3 were busy preparing for their Assembly last week. They made some multi-media presentations with the help of Kevin and the Technical Troopers (Ben< Jamie, Myah and Rhuaridh). We made a thrilling music video in the style of Michael Jackson. Our bones were moving in the Skeleton Dance and some of the moves from the Thriller original. We presented facts that we had learned from our Healthy Bodies IDL topic and we put these into our own words. We worked in groups to edit our presentation to match the pictures to the script we had made. here were some of the fascinating facts that we researched:
Jessica found out that your bones grow until you are 30 years old.
Daisy D. – You cannot see your skeleton but it holds your body in shape. Like a giraffe you have 7 bones in your neck.
Naomi – The bones are healthy. They are good. They keep you strong. Your heart beeps. Here is a question: why does your heart beat?
Answer:to pump blood around your body.
Daisy F. – Without bones you would be as wobbly as a jellyfish.
Our key questions that we are learning about are:
1. What are the main organs in my body and how do they function in a healthy body? HWB 1-05a, SCN 1-12a
2. What is a healthy body? How do I look after my body? HWB 1-15a, HWB 1-28a, SCN 1-12a
3. How does the food I eat affect my body? TCH 1-04a, TCH 1-04c, HWB 1-15a
4. What is a healthy mind? How can I look after my mind and who can I look to for support? HWB 1-05a
5. What is the link between the mind and body? HWB 1-05a, HWB 1-15a, HWB 1-28a
Many thanks to Annalise’s Mum and big sister for helping with the stage make-up. The ghouls and skeletons were very scary indeed!
Thank you for everyone who came to our Assembly.

P2/3 Prepare for Spring Assembly.
P2/3 Easter Assembly
Rhuairidh – Easter is a very nice time because there are lots of new flowers and new animals. All the flowers are bright.
James – We love seeing new things being born and growing up. We like seeing calves and especially lambs.
Cara – We have been learning how to draw and paint Easter-time flowers and we love seeing loads of flowers coming out.
Annalise – We like planting flowers at spring because we really like the petals when they bloom and the colours.
Daisy D – We love to celebrate the new life at spring-time.
We loved learning about the artist Elizabeth Blackadder and the Easter story. Some girls loved learning new words for yellow – pineapple, butterscotch and a lovely shade called daffodil! We did a lot of colour mixing to get the right shades for our terracotta pots of dwarf narcissi.
We hope you can come and see us at the church on Thursday afternoon. Daisy F says you can look up the yellow words on Google.
Bike-tastic Skills Fun Afternoon for P2/3
P2/3 had a lot of fun and learned about bike safety on the 20th of March 2017. Ian from Lowport Activity Centre came to lead bike games, talk about his interest in bikes and cycling and check whether our bikes were roadworthy. He told us that we need to check our brakes regularly and that we need to have a well-fitted helmet to keep ourselves safe.
Some of us were skidding and were clearly very skilled already and for others we gained in confidence as we weaved in and out of the bike trails in the playground. There are lots of cycle tracks near Mid Calder so here is hoping we are now ready to cycle beyond the school gates!
Crystal Grotto at Jupiter and the P2/3 response to it!
P2/3 Claywork Making Wheels for STEM Topic
We made some wheels out of clay. We all had a good time to make them. We made them by using tools and also some people used their hands.
Daisy D P2
P2/3 made some wheels and they were made out of clay. It was fun. We used rollers and we had slip to join the parts. Slip is a mixture of clay and water.
