The Primary 6s were visited by a team from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service today who taught them all about the dangers of deliberate fire setting, making hoax calls and general fire safety. They were also able to learn about the job that this team does and had a chance to look at some of the equipment that they use to help them. Everyone was reminded of how important this job is when the team had to leave half way through the session when they received an emergency call out. Thankfully it was a false alarm and they were able to return to finish their presentation. Thank you to the firemen for an interesting and informative talk.

Term 4 Achievement Awards
Yesterday we had our Achievement Assembly for Term 4. Each class nominated one pupil to receive the Achievement Award for their class. Parents and carers were invited along to watch the assembly.
We also gave out Star Writer Awards, Top Scorer prizes, sporting trophies and announced the winning house for the term. The school was also awarded a certificate for our continued support for the Smoke Free Home and Zones project.
Well done who everyone who received an award!
So you want to be a buddy?
Today Primary 6 pupils were involved in Buddy Training to prepare them for being P1 Buddies next term. We discussed the role of a buddy and why they are important. Pupils completed a carousel of questions including:
- What qualities should a P7 buddy have?
- What language will you use to support your buddy?
- What activities would you like to do with your buddy over the year?
- How can the staff support you with your role as a buddy?
We then took part in a community builder which helped us consider the emotions P1s might feel when they start school, we found out who our buddy will be and finally we made our buddy a card.
Change at MCPS

Responsible Roles: Safe Security
In preparation for the Responsible Roles that they will be taking on when they return as Primary 7s next session, some of the Primary 6 pupils have been learning how to be responsible monitors today. We discussed the role of Safe Security, did some role-plays of scenarios we might encounter and discussed appropriate language to use.
P3 trip to the Transport Museum
P3 had a fantastic day at the Transport Museum in Glasgow last week. It was an opportunity to see some of the types of transport we had been learning about in class, but also to learn more from the displays and work shop. We loved walking down Main Street and visiting the old shops. We also enjoyed ‘Saddlers’. Because there were so many horses used for transport many years ago, they needed a shop all to themselves. It’s a bit like a petrol station or garage now a days! The subway was very noisy and the rats were everywhere. The Tall Ship was fantastic. The children scrubbed the decks, rang the bell and even jumped in to one of the bunk beds!! We finished off the day with an interesting workshop with Lucy. She showed us a real life penny farthing and told us more about Percy Pilcher and his attempts at flying! What a brilliant day, we would love to go back again soon!
P7 Fair and P6 and 7 Enterprise
This week we have been informed on which p6 and 7 enterprize groups are going into the Dragon’s Den (Miss Thompson and Miss Burton are the ‘dragons’) to present their work. We have teams who are presenting such things as smoothieS, a lolly lucky dip, tea, coffee, cakes, car wash, popcorn, tattoos, pik n’mix and other exciting things too. This is all going to be presented at the P7 fair this Friday on the 12th of June. We are all very excited and I’m sure a lot of the P7s are too because we are doing a new activity called…SPONGE THE P7S!!! so as you can see it’s clearly going to be a very funny and exciting morning for everyone.

P6 Edinburgh Zoo Trip
P6 went to Edinburgh Zoo for a Cycle of Life Workshop to tie in with our sex education lessons.
We really enjoyed seeing the pandas and penguins and got to see rhinos sleeping in muddy water. The Gentou penguins were regurgitating their food for their babies and the male Gentous were giving stones for the females’ nests. We even saw Rockhopper penguins at the top of the hill trying to impress the females.
We enjoyed a picnic outside and even got a chance to buy cool things from the gift shop.
It was an awesome day out!
Responsible Roles: Magical Mediator Training Day 2
Today was Day 2 of our Magical Mediators training programme to prepare us for our Responsible Roles when we go into Primary 7. We returned to St. Ninian’s Primary School and we completed lots of different tasks to prepare us for the role. We also made action plans, we will meet with Miss Burton to put these plans into place for the next school year.
A big thank you to St. Ninan’s for hosting the training and we hope to have a Magical Mediator Debrief session in November to check up on how everyone is getting on in their new role. Also thank you to our trainer Carol from the Scottish Mediation Network.
