Story Maps are happening in P3/2

What excitment is happening with our |IDL context and story writing. The last few weeks have seen P3/2 look at a selection of traditional tales. The focus has been;

LIT 1.26a & 1.07a

We are learning to recognise the elements used to create traditional fairy tales

  • I can sequence events from a traditional fairy tale – Little Red Riding Hood.
  • I can identify the beginning, middle and end.
  • I can listen to and respond to questions.

First we looked at a selection of story maps and identified what we felt made them successful

Success Criteria; (a Sory map should have)

  • A sequence – beginning, middle and end
  • Characters – major and minor
  • Pictures or illustrations
  • Writing that supports the pictures to tell a story
  • Directions – as we don’t want to get lost! – a path or foot prints
  • May have speech and/or thought bubbles

Next we created a class ‘story map’ using the story of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ as a stimulus. All the children were invovled in creating our master piece…please see below

Primary Two are Scientists!

Primary Two are Scientists!

This week Primary Two were scientists and have been learning all about sound and the different ways we can make sounds. We had to do different experiments and describe what happened in each.

There were 6 stations –

i) Feel your Adam’s apple.

(ii) Twang a rubber

(iii) Strike a tuning fork

(iv) Scratch a balloon

(v) Pluck a guitar string

(vi) Tap a drum.

Alex thought that the sound might have been made by vibrations he could see on the drum. Myah’s group said they saw the water shake when their tuning fork touched the surface of the water.

Well done with your super observations P2. More Science to follow!

September Newsletter

Dear Parent/Carer,

It was lovely to see so many of you at the recent Meet the Teacher event. Our House Captains made an excellent presentation to parents outlining the school Positive Ethos policy. This was their first House Captain duty and they delivered their key messages in an engaging and informative way and are a true asset to the school.

I hope you all have a lovely September break.

Data Handling in Primary 5

Learning Intention:

We are learning to sort data using Venn, Carroll and tree diagrams

Success Criteria:

  • I can use and create Venn, Carroll and tree diagrams to help me to sort information by two and three criteria
  • I have compared how the same information is displayed differently in each diagram
  • I can choose an appropriate diagram to help me sort by more than two criteria
  • I can ask and answer questions using Venn, Carroll and tree diagrams

For the last three weeks, Primary 5 have been learning about the different ways that information and data can be sorted, and this week we have been learning about Venn, Carroll and Tree diagrams. We have been sorting numbers, letters, words and footballer profiles using different criteria. We have also been using Sumdog to help us learn.
