Ball In The Hall

Last week P1 and P2/1 finished their Castles IDL by having a fantastic Ball In The Hall. We all enjoyed a fun filled afternoon which was planned and organised by our P7 Buddies. Everyone joined in some games and dancing, before settling down to enjoy our Feast. Primary 7 served all the food and a drink, and then the Jesters provided us with some entertainment. We finished off with more games and dancing. A huge Thank You to Primary 7 for organising this for us. We had a great afternoon P7, and we hope you enjoyed it too.

P2/1 Castles Evaluation

On Friday P2/1 evaluated their learning about Castles.

We discussed the knowledge we had learned – the information we now know about castles, the skills we developed – the things we did to learn about castles. We also discussed what went well and how it could be even better.

Some of our favourite learning activities included:

  • building castles at home and school
  • visiting Stirling Castle
  • Our Ball in the Hall with our buddies

Primary 1 and Primary 2/1: Building Our Nursery

For our STEM context for learning we are going to be helping the builders to build our nursery!

Our learning will focus on:

  • Science: Materials
  • Technologies: Design
  • Maths: Measure

The questions we decided we wanted to explore are:

  1. What materials will we use to build our nursery and why?
  2. What machines will we need and how do they work?
  3. Which tools will we use to build our nursery and why?
  4. Who will help us build our nursery?
  5. How will we design the inside of our nursery and what will we need?
  6. When will we open our new nursery and how will we open it?

Primary 3/2 STEM Context: Brompton Bike Challenge

For our STEM context for learning we are going to be learning about the Brompton Bike Challenge!

Our learning will focus on:

  • Science: Senses and Materials
  • Technologies: Design
  • Maths: Measure

The questions we decided we wanted to explore are:

  1. What is a safe bike? Who uses bikes? RESEARCH and NOTE TAKING ON MIND MAP
  2. What senses are used with a bike accessory? SENSES
  3. What materials are used to make a bike accessory? RESEARCH and MATERIALS
  4. How do you design a bike accessory.? DESIGN and PROBLEM SOLVING (design brief)
  5. How do you build a bike accessory? MEASURE and CONSTRUCTION

Build-a-Bike Art Sculptures P2 and 3

P2/3 have started their design product challenge as part of STEM term. We will be looking at the stages in the design process – from recognising a need, developing a design brief, creating a design and product and then evaluating it – phew!

To start us off we are looking at bicycle wheel through Art – looking at spokes, tyres and their circular shape. We made 3-D wheel tiles using rolling, cutting, imprinting and next time we will look at decorative techniques in claywork. Not quite the Great Pottery throwdown but nearly – catch it on BBC2.

We will be looking at bike accessories and trying to make some of these following the design process. Take a close look at bikes around you.
