Welcome to Term 4 in Primary 5/4. We are looking forward to a busy and fun final term. The highlights of last term included hearing from specialist speakers linked to our Grand Designs topic, P5s attending the Handball Sports Festival and P4s attending the Benchball Sports Festival, and taking part in NYCOS music sessions. This term we have started our new IDL context for learning, Project Planetarium and are looking forward to our session with Cosmos Planetarium.
The Primary 7 Magical Mediators had a meeting today with Roxan from the Scottish Mediation to discuss our Magical Mediators process. The discussed the benefits to the pupils at school and in the real world. They also discussed potential difficulties and how they overcame them. Roxan was very complimentary about our Magical Mediators and how they were a great asset to the school.
Welcome to Term 4 in Primary 7. In this last term the children are looking forward to planning and developing their knowledge and understanding of STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Exciting and challenging lessons and activities will be completed by the pupils, using the context of CSI style investigations. Here the pupils will have the opportunity to develop reasoning and logical thinking within problem solving scenarios. We are excited about P7 leavers’ activities. P7 are now in the process of transferring their responsible roles onto P6.
Try to find a newspaper article about space. It could be about anything space-related such as Tim Peake, a new discovery or a spacecraft launch. Bring it into school to share with your classmates. If you don’t have any newspapers try looking online. You could post the link to it on the comments of this blog post if you don’t want to print it out.
Maths
All children to use Sumdog for homework.
Spelling
Follow instructions given by your Spelling teacher.
Liam (P3) and Alivia (nursery) are running in the Great Edinburgh run next Sunday and are hoping to raise funds towards the playground fund which the school and PSA are raising money for.
Below is a link to their Crowdfunding page, if you are able to spare anything, no matter how small – they would be very thankful.
There was a lot of excitement in the upper area this morning as the Primary 6s found out their Responsible Roles which they will start in term 4 of P6 and into P7. Each Primary 6 pupil completed a job application form, which were of a very high standard and were then allocated an appropriate role dependent on their skills, qualities and experiences.
The Primary 7 pupils with the support of Miss Burton put together a training session for the new P6 Magical mediators. They started with a job description and an overview of what the job required. We then took part in a selection of community builders which helped us to focus on the skills and qualities needed to be a mediator, and which also put us in the role of the disputants. Following this we went through the 5 stages of a mediation and the Primary 7s showed us a mediation scenario, then we had time to try out our own scenarios with the Primary 7s supporting us. Finally we ended with a question and answer session, the Primary 7 pupils offered a lot of very useful advice.
Thank you so much to the Primary 7s for training us and we are looking forward to our work experience shadowing opportunity in the new term.
Here is the Magical Mediators training video that the P7s made:
There is no homework for P.5/4 this week but here are some optional activities that you could do this week or over the Easter holidays.
Choose a book from the Serial Mash section of Purple Mash and try to finish it before coming back to school after the holidays. You could also write a book review about it.
Complete the Easter holidays Sumdog challenges in Maths and Reading that Mr. Renshaw will put up in the next few days.
