Nursery Learning Letter

Dear Parent/Carer,

Welcome to Term 1 in Mid Calder Nursery. I hope you have all had a peaceful and relaxing summer, and are now feeling refreshed.  This term the children are enjoying settling in to the nursery. They are getting to know new friends and new staff. We are confident your child will feel happy and secure in the nursery and will aim to provide a variety of experiences and opportunities that will help your child become a confident, lifelong learner, by capitalising on their individual strengths and qualities. We look forward to an exciting term.

Primary 7 class charter 2016/2017

After settling in well to routines of Primary 7, we focused on creating our class charter, incorporating the UNICEF articles for the Rights of the Child.  We examined the articles and decided how to incorporate them into our every day class experiences for successful learning.  We have now all signed and agreed to this charter and we will use it consistently throughout the year to remind ourselves of Primary 7 expectations.

P3 Class Charter

Primary 3 have enjoyed working together to create a class charter. We looked at the school values and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child to decide how we would like our class to be. We brainstormed some ideas for a class charter theme and came up with Candy land. We each had to sign a jelly bean to say that we agree to follow the class charter. We hope you like our Candy lollipops!

Gotta live them all in P5B

As part of our welcome to P5B week, we worked together to create our class charter which will help us to be a successful class throughout this year. We began by voting on a theme for our charter, then we created a design for it in pairs. We combined our designs to put together the final pokemon themed product. We used the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child to help us create some class rules that linked into the 7 different key articles that we explored.

We agreed that in P5B, we will…

  • Listen to each other and respect each others’ opinions.
  • Respect each others’ privacy.
  • Take part in a range of different learning activities to develop our talents and skills. We will always try our best.
  • Keep our environment and classroom as safe and as healthy as we can.
  • Respect people from all countries and their languages, religions and cultures.
  • Respect each others’ right to an education by staying focused and on task and not distracting others.
  • Make sure we take time to play and relax. We will let people join in our games by being inclusive.

House Captain Election 2016

On Friday we held our annual House Captain Election. The presentations this year were of a very high standard and all P7s worked very hard to put together their manifestos under strict time limits. A big well done to all the Primary 7s who ran for election and congratulations to our new House and Vice Captains.

Class of 2016

Every year West Lothian Council holds a ‘Class of …’ so Head Teachers can share interesting and new practice and they can find out about what’s new in education. On Friday Mrs McKenzie was invited along to Class of 2016 to share how we use ICT to support our learning and teaching at Mid Calder Primary. You can view the video below.

Welcome to P5A

P5a explored some Articles from the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child to help create our class charter.

“We looked at the rights of children.”  (Kuba)

“We went into pairs to think about the right and drew a picture of what it means to us.” (Freya)

We voted on how to display our charter.  “We made scuba divers and creatures for our underwater theme.” (Daniel).

We have all been working very hard earning Well Done Tokens and Dojo points for following our charter and living our class values.
