P4B’s Date at a Dairy Farm

Today, P4b had a fantastic day at East Bangour Dairy Farm and we learned so much! The trip began with a tour around the calf sheds, where we were taught about how calves are brought up and fed. We were then taken into the milk shed, the farmer showed us where the milk is stored, how the cows stand in the milk pit and we were also able to try out the machine that milks the cows with our fingers.
At the end of the trip we were able to sit in a huge tractor and the farmers then introduced us to one day old baby lambs and we were even allowed to hold them!
We had a brilliant time and it was a fantastic experience! Thank you so much to the staff of East Bangour Farm and Karen from RHET.

P4b’s Fantastic day of food!

P4b had a very exciting day yesterday learning all about food, restaurants and cooking. In the morning we went to visit the ‘Fork and Field’ Restaurant in Mid Calder, it was brilliant! We were given a tour around the restaurant, shown how orders are made and sent to the chef and we were also able to pretend we were waiters and waitresses serving food and drink to customers. It was a super experience and cant wait to tell everyone about all the information we found out.
In the afternoon, Jennifer Robertson from Quality Meat Scotland came into class to talk to us about the importance of local farms and meat. Jennifer also taught us how to prepare healthy beef fajitas, filled with homemade guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes and peppers, YUMMY!

P4b’s Pizza Party

As part of our ‘From Field to Fork’ IDL Context, this week, P4b visited Frankie and Benny’s Livingston Restaurant as we have been learning all about restaurants and how food as prepared. When we arrived we were given our own aprons and chef hats, which we could decorate. We were each given a piece of dough to stretch, twist and squeeze into any shape we liked and these were cooked by the Chef in the kitchen to create dough shapes, they were delicious!
After creating our dough sticks we began to make our pizza! We covered our pizza bases with tomato sauce, cheese and a various other toppings of our choice, it was so much fun!
We had an amazing time at Frankie and Benny’s and cant wait to go back!

P4B’s Amazing Line Art

LI: We are learning to create art using a variety of different lines.
SC: I understand the purpose of line within art.
I am aware of a variety of types of lines
I can experiment with different types of lines.
I can create a piece of artwork using line.

This week we have been learning about the importance of lines within art. We looked at a variety of different artists’ work and discussed their use of line and it’s purpose. We then began to experiment with different types of lines on our whiteboards and then shared our work with the class, giving and receiving feedback.
We will use what we have learned to create and draw our own imaginative farm scene using a various line styles and colours.

P4b’s Persuasive Posters!

LI: We are learning to use text and colour techniques to represent ideas.
SC: A successful poster will include:
* Picture of the product
* Price
* Slogan
* Persuasive techniques
* Include key information from the text

In class we have been learning all about advertising and persuasive techniques. As part of our IDL Dragon’s Den challenge we have been working in groups to plan and design an advert poster for our own marvellous medicines.
Once we finished our plans we then used the Netbooks to recreate our posters on Microsoft Word then printed them out. It was really interesting learning new computer skills!

P4b – Marvellous Freeze Frames

LI: We are learning to create a freeze frame of a key moment in the text.

SC: I can work with others.
I can consider body language, facial expressions and use of props.
I can perform my drama to others and accept and provide constructive feedback.

In P4b this week we have been using drama to further develop our understanding of George’s Marvellous Medicine IDL Context. In groups, we were given a key moment from the text and asked to create a freeze frame/still image to represent this. We had to consider: body language, facial expressions and use of props (imaginative and physical). Once we had prepared our freeze frames, our classmates then had to use the freeze frame to guess which part of the text is being represented.

JRSO – 2016 Induction Event

This week our three Primary 7 Junior Road Safety Officers attended a West Lothian JRSO Induction Event at Broxburn Primary School.

During this event our JRSO’s developed their knowledge of Road Safety, received brilliant resources and were given training on how to present information to an audience. The JRSO’s really enjoyed their afternoon and are very excited to share what they have learned with the JRSO Junior Leadership Team and with the rest of the school.

P4b’s Marvellous Character Descriptions

Learning Intention: We are learning about the key features of a character description.
Success Criteria:
– I can discuss the key features of character descriptions and can highlight these on given examples.
– I understand what a simile is, can give an example and highlight a simile in a piece of text.
– I can plan a character description for George/Granny from George’s Marvellous Medicine using ambitious vocabulary and similes.

P4 have started their novel based IDL Topic on Roald Dahl’s George’s Marvellous Medicine this week. In writing, we have been looking closely at character descriptions and what key information authors include in their stories to help us build up a picture of the characters in our imagination. We worked in pairs to highlight key character information from different pieces of text and then used this to help us plan our own individual character description of George or Granny.
