Over the last fortnight we have celebrated World Book week and Nursery Rhyme week. We started with a visit from Rachel McGaw who read ‘The Kilted Coo’. Then we were challenged to learn a different nursery rhyme every day, starting with 5 Currant Buns which we acted out. Next was Humpty Dumpty, we had fun clapping each time we said Humpty and Dumpty. Our favourite was A Sailor went to Sea, clapping 3 times every time we said sea or see. We finished the week with I’m a Little Teapot and Round and Round the Garden. As a treat we invited our parents and carers in to hear our rhymes and watch the children receive their Book Bug Bags. They enjoyed home baking and shortbread made by the children then participated in our nursery rhyme concert. It’s been a fabulous few weeks celebrating with our families.

Digital Week in the Nursery
This week we have been continuing to explore and develop our digital learning. Some children were using the iPads to scan QR codes to unveil which well being indicator character was hidden. Displaying confidence and leading their own learning, they were able to demonstrate to their peers how to do this. We have enjoyed learning how to turn our Adventure Ted adventures in to a comic using comic life, displaying these in our foyer for everyone to read. Using our iPod we chose which song we would like to dance to, also enjoying a game of musical statues. We recorded our indoor and outdoor play with our GoPro then enjoyed a visit from The Technical Troopers who helped develop our directional language when teaching us how to program the Bee-Bots.
Active Alfie!
To develop our understanding of the well being indicators the children created names for them one being ‘Active Alfie.’ We spoke about how we keep ourselves active during nursery by taking part in enjoy a ball sessions, sticky kids and our outdoor activities. We know that this is a good way to stay fit and healthy but the most important thing is that we have fun.
A Special Visitor
This morning the nursery had a very special visitor…Charlie Dog. Charlie is a therapy dog who works with lots of children and used to be a regular visitor in our school. The children were very excited and asked lots of questions…
“Why is he deaf?” Daisy
“Why does his tail wag?” Liam
“How old is Charlie?” Molly
Carol told us that Charlie was 14 and went to hydro therapy to help his legs and because he was old he had lost his hearing. Erin told us that Charlie wags his tail when he is happy. We really enjoyed our visit and look forward to Charlie coming back to visit the afternoon children.
Our New Friends in the Nursery
To help us remember our well being indicators we decided to give them names, SAFE Sophie, RESPONSIBLE Nina and Flynn the dog, ACTIVE Alfie, INCLUDED Pom Poms, Achieving Alex, RESPECTFUL Rookies and NURTURED Cookie. The children shared how the indicators helped them and decided to create a book to help them remember what the indicators were. Anyone who visits our nursery can have a look through our fantastic book to see our wonderful drawings and read what the children have written.
The Nursery Bake Off!
The boys and girls have been taking part in bake off sessions in the nursery. So far they have made crispie cakes, scones, top hats and shortbread. They have enjoyed learning how chocolate melts, how to measure ingredients, the feeling and smells they experience while baking. We have all enjoyed this learning experience…including the staff! Keep watching for more bake off updates.
Nursery Eco Warriors!
The nursery children have been exploring the outdoors. While on these outings they noted there was lots of litter in the area. After discussing what we could do about this the children said they would like to help to clean up their environment. Armed with litter pickers and bin bags they set out on their eco warrior adventure. I’m sure you would agree, what a fabulous job they did.
