West Lothian are  seeking views from people living in West Lothian to help shape a new, refreshed anti-poverty strategy. They want to know what people in West Lothian think about poverty related issues, particularly if they have experienced challenges in their life relating to financial difficulties. They are also interested in hearing  ideas about what they can do at a local level to help people experiencing poverty or money worries.
Your views are important and will be used to help develop an action plan to address poverty and deprivation in West Lothian.

Primary 1 have been busy this week.
In sounds we learnt two new ones, l and r. Children were very good at these as they recognised words and names that had those letters in them. For ‘l’ we created lions which were fantastic.
  Â
In writing, we used Katie Morag and her Two Grandmothers as a stimulus and wrote about our Grannies or someone special at home.
This week we began to learn basic sayings in French. We learnt hoe to say hello and my name is. We also play Jacques a dit (Simon says) which all the children love.
We have been learning more about money, trying to add small amounts together.Â
We have been further learning our sense of number and will continue this to help us with our early addition and subtraction. Â
  Â
In health and wellbeing we are discussing about how we should be kind to others in school. We are further learning Scottish Country dancing by learning to move to a beat of 8.
We are concentrating on our listening skills so we listened to animal noises which we had to follow like a dot to dot to make a picture.
As part of our topic Katie Morag and Scotland we created and the Island of Struay and will continue to add to this. We have been learning about what an island is and what we may like or not like about living on an island.
As it was Burns day this week, our vibrant vocabulary book was about a Scottish Highland Cow. It was Hairy Hettie. Our words were hibernate, scurried, bellowed, burrowed and fluttered. The children loved these words and were fantastic at understanding what the words mean.
And finally a big well done to Andrew and all other children who recited their poems in front of the school and people from home. It is not easy to stand up and do that but you all did fantastic. Also Andrew you looked very smart and Miss Brown and Mrs Robertson are very proud of you.

This week in Primary 7 we have started to learn the parts for our assembly. We are looking forward to sharing our learning with our families and the school on Friday next week. This week we have looked at fashion through the decades and compared this with current trends. The favourites were the 1930s, 50s and 90s.
Mrs Burrows came across from the Academy to work with some of us and the rest working on inference skills. We are getting good at reading between the lines and understanding the deeper meaning of texts.
In maths we have been finishing up learning about time. Next week we are heading on to division in preparation for focusing on fractions.
At our Scots Assembly this morning we heard all the finalists of the Poetry Competition and everyone who recited their poem was fantastic. We are very proud of our Amy who won the P4-7 prize reciting To A Mouse by Robert Burns and Milissa who was our Pupil of the Week for working hard in maths. Well done!
Our football team are in action this afternoon and we have wished them good luck and are looking forward to seeing them on Monday to tell us how they did.
Have a great weekend 🙂

We currently have some reported cases of chicken pox within the nursery. Here is advice from NHS Lothian on what to do if your child has chicken pox and how to reduce the spread of infection. We would be very grateful if you could take the time to read through it.

We look forward to welcoming everyone on Friday 26th at 9.15 am to hear our winners from each year group reciting their poems to the whole school.
It was a very difficult task choosing just one person from each year group as everyone had put in so much work and all the judges were very impressed.
The year group winners are as follows:
Primary 1 – Andrew King
Primary 2 – Alyssa Stevenson
Primary 3 – Melissa McNeill
Primary 4 – Zach Smyth
Primary 5 – Allie Cowan
Primary 6 – Karis Craig
Primary 7 – Amy Russell
Well done to everyone! 🙂
