As part of our cluster schools Anti-sectarian programme, we have been learning a new song entitled ‘Doon Oor Street’. This was specially written for us by Mr Cowan, Head Teacher at Eastertoun Primary School. All the schools in the cluster have their own verses, to the same tune and each school is going to feature on the music CD. We recently went across to the primary school with about 8 of our children for a cluster schools practice. Our nursery children were absolutely fabulous and we were so proud of them!!! The actual CD will be getting made in September, so watch out for more information on this. Your child should be able to sing you a verse or two of our song, ask them!!

Fun Day
The sun shone for our annual Fun Day!!! While we were having our sports practice in the morning, the Enterprise Group set up our Gazebos and stalls for this popular event in our nursery calendar! We had a bouncy castle, face painting, hot dogs, children and adult tombolas, hook-a-duck, raffles, home baking etc. It was a brilliant day and we raised the fantastic amount of £563.53!!!!! Thank you so much to all who contributed in any way and to the Enterprise Group for organising the event!
Farewell Mrs Bennie!
After the Easter holidays the children, staff and parents said a sad but fond farewell to Mrs Bennie! Mrs Bennie worked in the the nusery office for 6 years and was a valuable member of staff, she will be sorely missed by all of us! We wish her well in her new post at Stoneyburn Primary School! Some of the children from both sessions walked to the shops in Armadale to select a special bunch of flowers and card to give to Mrs Bennie during a special presentation when the children sang some of their favourite songs! The children finished with Mrs Bennie’s favourite nursery song, ‘You are my Sunshine’ – tears all round!!!!!
Potato Planting
Our local farmer Mr McNee returned this year to our nursery to talk to the children about potato planting. The children helped to plant their seed potatoes and are now looking after them. We are hoping for a bumper crop this season to have for snack, along with the many vegatables we are growing in the nursery garden!!!!
Red Nose Fun Day
The children, parents and staff enjoyed a Comic Relief fun day with lots of fun activities. Everyone wore something red to nursery and either wore their red noses or had them painted on! The children decorated their own photo frames and these were sold with a group picture of the children wearing their noses! The children also took part in a balloon race, decorated red nose cakes, and enjoyed a red themed snack as well as various red nose arts and craft activities!! We also sold two boxes of red noses!! A fantastic total of £310.64 was raised in total!! Well done everyone!
Vegetable Patch
Now that the children have been able to get back into the nursery garden they have been helping to prepare the soil for our vegetable planting. We will be planning the planting with the children and going for walks to the local garden centre to buy seeds for sowing.
Christmas Fayre
The Enterprise Group were very busy preparing for the Christmas Fayre held over at the primary school. The Group organised tombolas for both adults and children. They took orders for names on christmas baubles and sold various items made by them and the children. Thank you to all who donated in any way to our successful christmas fundraising. We raised the fantastic amount of £357.27. Well Done!!!!
Spotty Fun Day
On Thursday, 18 November the children and staff enjoyed a Spotty Fun Day in aid of Children In Need. The Enterprise Group organised various activities such as Pudsey and Blush crafts, Pin the Patch on Pudsey, cutting Pudsey sandwiches for snack, baking and decorating Pudsey cakes and face painting. Most of the children came dressed to nursery wearing something spotty. We raised a fantastic total of £104 for the Children In Need Charity! Well done to everyone who contributed!
Baking Scones
We have started baking scones for snack in both sessions. The children enjoy this experience and like to help. This life skill not only teaches them about how to make scones but also teaches them about hygiene, numeracy (counting how many spoonfuls), literacy as we use a recipe book and critical skills, because the children will tell us if they don’t like them!!!
Vegetables Harvested
Way before the Summer holidays the children planted carrots, beetroot, lettuce, spring onions and onions. They helped to look after the plants by watering, pulling out weeds and thinning them out when they grew big enough. When we returned after the summer break we were amazed how they had grown and that there were no weeds to be seen!!! The children helped to dig up the vegetables, wash them and cut them up for snack. They all tasted absolutely yummy!!! Lets hope we are as successful next time round!!
