Live Music in Oak Class

Over the last few weeks we have been enjoying our Live Music Sessions with Ross. Each week we travel to a different destination in our hot air balloon and use instruments to communicate how it would sound. Before Ross arrives on a Thursday we read a story and do either art or drama linked to the destination.

Week 1 – Rainforest. We read Rumble in the Jungle by Giles Andreae and created snakes.

Week 2 – Under the Sea. We read Fidgety Fish by Ruth Galloway and made handprint jellyfish.

Week 3 – Space. We read Space Dog by Vivian French and Sue Heap and made moonscapes.

Week 4 – Train Station. We read The Train Ride by June Crebbin and printed a train.

Week 5 – Zoo. We read Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell and used our bodies to move like different animals. We also learned Signalong for the animals in our story.

Oak Class visit Livingston Centre

We had a fantastic morning visiting the shopping centre to see the Christmas lights and hunt for Santa!

And we’re off! We all carried our own bags.

The shopping centre was very busy but we all listened to the adults and demonstrated safe behaviour.

We loved all the lights and decorations.

We even had time for a treat in Greggs and Mrs Kerr, Mrs Dalglish and Mrs Pinner were very proud of our table manners!

Oak Room Snack time

Look what we made for snack time today…. PIZZAS!

First, we each choose a topping for our pizza and placed our shopping order.

Then, we made our pizzas in the kitchen. We used Warburtons thins for the base, pasta sauce, cheese and then added our toppings.

Pupil A made a mushroom, pepper and sweetcorn pizza.

Pupil B had a sweetcorn and pepper pizza.

Pupils C,D & E made ham and sweetcorn pizzas.

Pupil F made a cheese pizza.

Finally, we ate them for snack. They were DELICIOUS!!

Oak Room – Snow Day 3!

Good morning boys and girls,

If you are looking for some new activities to try today then here are a couple of ideas..

Paint the snow

You will need:

  • A spray bottle or water pistol
  • Food colouring
  • Water

Mix the food colouring with the water and then use to spray on the snow. See what patterns this makes.

You can also use turkey baster or an empty plastic bottle and pierce the lid instead of a spray bottle.

You could use different colours and paint a rainbow !

Snow/Ice Moulds

Using your baking or sand pit moulds use these with the snow and ice.  Can you build a tower?  Make a house?

Loose Parts Play

What can you build using items you find around the house or outside?

Enjoy your weekend and hopefully see you on Monday.

Oak Class World Book Day

Good morning boys and girls,

It’s World Book Day and l couldn’t believe my eyes when l saw who was reading in my garden this morning, ELSA!

I would love to see photos of you dressed up for World Book Day reading your favourite book. You could also tell me why it is your favourite book. If you don’t have a costume then draw your favourite character or make a character mask.

Saw this on the Willow class post and loved it so I thought I’d add it for us too (Thanks Mr Adam)

Hopefully see you soon,

Oak Room Snow Update

Good Morning boys and girls,

I hope you are enjoying your snow day. Look what Emily and l finally got round to making, l hope they taste as good as the ones we made together!

We walked to the shop early this morning for some snow day goodies (yummy!). The snow was very deep so l pulled Emily all the way there and back on her sledge, l was exhausted!

I would love to hear what you are up to, you could even post a wee photo.

If you are looking for some work to do here are some ideas

  • Build a snowman and measure how tall he is
  • Draw and write about your favourite snow day activity
  • If it’s too cold outside read a book or even watch a film then draw and write about your favourite part
  • Write your fry words in the snow
  • Write number sequences in the snow in 1s, 5s & 10s
  • Make snowmen shaped biscuits, you can help measure out all the ingredients

But most importantly have fun!

See you all soon

Oak Room Generation Science

We really enjoyed our interactive session learning about the wonderful world of bees, finding out how a bees body is different to ours, taking a tour of a beehive and discovering how bees and flowers work together.

During the show, we pretended to be bees and walked through powered paint to show ow pollination works.
