Word Boost

Hi, my name is Betty Skinner and as you all may already know I started working in the nursery eight weeks ago. My role within the nursery is Early Years Officer Additional Graduate, which is working towards raising attainment in literacy and numeracy. there will be various programmes running to support this, word boost, box clever, story sacks, nursery rhymes and stories.

Word boost has started again for our nursery children, the book we read today was Sylvia and Bird and this week’s boost words are gaze, tumble, search and lonely. Can you try to speak to your children about these words and what they mean. there will be leaflets in the cloakroom to support their learning.

Thank you

October Holiday Week

While lots of our friends have been enjoying time at home during the October week, we have been busy in Glenvue Nursery. Each morning we took part in some active yoga and are learning that this helps to keep us healthy. We have been outĀ  investigating the local wildlife, discovering worms, ducks and birds.Ā We have been using items in nursery to discover how tall we are, helping to develop our knowledge of size and amount and we have also had a busy week preparing and serving healthy meals and snacks to our friends, being responsible and washing the dishes when we were finished.

You can now follow our adventures on TWITTER at @Dedridgeps

Story session

Thank you to all the parents, carers and grandparents who took the opportunity to pop in over the week beginning 23rd September to take part in our story telling sessions, The children had a great week using their imagination toĀ explore stories sharing their ideas and thoughts. If you couldn’t make it don’t worry, there will be more opportunities to join your child for a fun story session. We also have a selection ofĀ  story sacks, which you can borrow from the nursery, these provide opportunities for your child to talk and learn new vocabulary, extend their knowledge, improve confidence and stimulate an interest in books and stories. If you would like to take home a story sack please speak to a member of staff.

Outdoor Learning and Fun at West Lothian College

Today some of the nursery children had the opportunity to engage in an outdoor learning session at West Lothian College. They were able to explore, investigate and express themselves freelyĀ without any space constraints allowing them the freedom to jump, shout and explore. Outdoor learning allows children to develop their understanding of the world they live in and brings lots of advantages for a childā€™s development both physically and mentally. After all our exciting play, we enjoyed a tasty well earned snack. ThankĀ you West Lothian College for allowing us to take part in this exciting adventure.

Sports Day

SPORTS DAY

The sun was shinning today as the Nursery children had a fabulous time today showing off their sporting skills. Everyone tried their best and showed amazing concentration as they took turns in their activities.

The children enjoyed being supported and guided by the primary 6 class whom they have built up good relationships with. We ended the event with a sprint finish as the childrenĀ  took part in a race and everyone got a sticker for job well done!!

After all their hard workĀ the children tucked into a drink of juice and a refreshing well deserved ice pole.

Thank you to all the family members that came to watch and cheer the children on, it made it really special.

Enjoy the summer holidays

Zoo Lab visit

This weekĀ  the children were very excited when Sophie the snake, Gary the gecko, Sally the snail, Maxine the millipede, Toya the tarantula and Kevin the cockroach popped in to say Hello!

Ranger BarryĀ came along with the visitors to deliver a fun learning experience, gaining the immediate interest of the children and exciting their curiosity. The children really enjoyed seeing all the animals. Barry answered all their questions in a calm and interesting way and gave encouragement to those a little unsure.

Thank you ZooLab for a very interesting and informative activity.
