Oak Class learn about Holland

Oak class are were learning the ‘h’ sound today so we thought we would learn about a country beginning with that sound – Holland.

We made some lovely spinning windmills having researched Kinderdjik.

We also made Dutch flags and tasted Stroopwafels.

The pupils also painted colourful tulips.

We also listened to the song ‘A mouse lived in a windmill in Old Amsterdam’

P4 plan fresh food on Mars

Our class have been planning a mission to Mars for the last month or so. We have been planning a sustainable biodome garden for when we reach Mars. We have had to research the needs of plants so that we bring with us the correct irrigation equipment, heaters, lights, soil and so on. We know that it will be important nutritionally to have fresh food available as it takes a very long time for anything to arrive from Earth.
We are also thinking about what to eat during space travel and know that it is just as important for an astronaut to have a healthy diet as it is for us. We have used the NHS eatwell guide to find out what we can eat as part of a healthy, balanced diet while we travel to the red planet.
We want to promote fresh food and healthy diets throughout the Solar System!

Primary 4 taught British Sign Language by P7

Today we were so happy to be taught by P7 girls, Paige and Alisha. They taught us how to do British Sign Language to the song “This Is Me”.

The link to the video we used is https://youtu.be/5jNwvJ-vZU0

Chloe said, ” It was really good to do”

Amirah said, “It was amazing!”

Emily said, “I didn’t know any sign language until today”

Rosie said, “It was my first time doing sign language and I enjoyed it”

Poppy said, “It was cool to be able to sing in sign language!”

P4 mission to Mars

Primary 4 are on a mission to Mars. We have been exploring our solar system and undertaking some serious scientific research to make sure that we stay safe. It is a dangerous mission so we have been writing to astronaut Tim Peake to reassure him that we are prepared for the severe storms on Mars and the high levels of radiation. We have also had to consider the orbits of Earth and Mars to make our journey time take the minimum 150 days. Pupils have been interviewing for crew to join the mission and we are meeting together soon to discuss what we need to pack. This is Primary 4’s most daring mission so far and we will be in touch soon… possibly from the red planet. Over and out.

World Book (snow) Day P4

Good Morning P4,

It’s world book day today and since the school isn’t open why not find somewhere interesting to spend part of the day reading.

Our school library is doing a wall display called “Selfie on the Shelfie” so please take a photo of yourself reading in an unusual location and you can either send it to me in Glow or bring it to school when we re-open.

I hope you have fun in the snow today and remember to stay safe.

If you are looking for more learning activities please check yesterday’s blog post (I see not many people have accessed them!)

P4 snow day learning activities

Good morning to all P4 learners!

As the school is closed for severe weather I have attached links to some things that will help you today. Some of the activities will require your passwords which should be in your diary.

Reading:

I have put some new reading materials on https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk/ . If you log into your account there should be something individual for you.

Maths and Numeracy:

If you would like to continue learning about fractions, I have allocated some specific fractions maths games on https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk/

For some more general maths revision to keep your mind sharp, use https://www.sumdog.com or http://gregtangmath.com

Spelling and Reading:

I would highly advise that you spend at least 15 minutes on https://www.idlcloud.co.uk in keeping with what we would usually do. This is an individualise program to each pupil.

Using GLOW:

Don’t forget that there are a wealth of tools that the pupils can access via https://glow.rmunify.com/

Creative projects could include:

Using Sway, PowerPoint online or Microsoft Word online to write/create a journal of what you did on your snow day.

Using the above tools to make a personal project about something that interests you.

Researching and making a presentation about Fairtrade.

Stay safe

It is great to spend some time exploring the snow outdoors but please only do so if it is safe and you are supervised by an adult.

I hope that you have an enjoyable day learning at home and can access the learning activities.

Have fun,

Mr Sinclair
