Pupils can be seen using Anytime Anywhere technology within the classroom to facilitate learning. Photographs which are being used as secondary source were taken previously and are being referred back to. Within the New National Qualifications Unit specifications there is a reference to the use of a sketchbook for reflective practice and to record work. This has also been discussed at Neighbourhood meetings, where it has been suggested as a starting point that a sketchbook be used for Art and Design Critical studies. The sketchbook would become a learning journal, diary of work and as it is small and portable, offers flexibility for students on the move who may prefer to work at home or with a friend.

These photographs were taken using my Canon EOS 550D DSLR camera so I have captured a lot of detail. I love the colour of the flowers and petals, a subtle purple and yellow, which is very eye-catching against the strong green and rich velvety red of the other blooms. Included are primary source, observational sketches, which have been used with various classes from S1 to S5/6. The Visual Elements of line, tone, colour are the focus and initially I demonstrate the use of a soft sketching pencil, then coloured pencil with colour mixing and blending and felt tip pens to produce a pointilist technique. Statement of intent
Visual Arts Practice 1
I plan to follow two lines of Practical Inquiry; landscape and figurative. Within landscape I plan to revisit two major paintings which have the potential for further development and which I have ‘intended’ to work on for some time. I am surrounded by art work both past and present which is an invaluable source of inspiration to me. Triptych and diptych works interest me as I look for the connection from one piece to the other, so this will become a line of inquiry. I want to return to these important paintings created in the past, select areas from them and by enlarging, manipulating and exploring a range of materials, create art work which focuses more on abstraction, composition, colour and line. Colour is very important to me; contrasting, bold, dramatic, so it may be a challenge to experiment with more muted tones and black and white. Line; I love the undulating line found in landscape and would love to explore what lies beneath the surface of the earth. Continue reading Statement of intent
