Miss Prior

It is with great sadness that we bring you news of the passing of Miss Mary Prior, former Head Teacher of St. Joseph’s Primary.  Miss Prior spent most of her teaching career here in St. Joseph’s and was fully devoted to the education of our children.  Please remember her and her family in your prayers.

The ‘Unsinkable Ship’

Today Primary 5 took on the Titanic Building Challenge.

Building the Titanic Challenge

We learned about the size and structure of the Titanic and to work together as a team.

Success Criteria

To be successful we had to

  • Create a large picture of the Titanic on the wall
  • Include all features of the real Titanic
  • Make the size of the features and the ship in proportion
  • Listen to each other
  • Make decisions and solve problems
  • Make sure everyone had a job to do

We had a very successful afternoon.

Group 4 drew the cabins on deck.
Group 3 working on the funnels.
Group 2 had responsibility for making the hull.
Group 1 used lots of different materials to create the sea.
Putting the jigsaw pieces together.
Looks great up on the wall.

Welcome to the Summer Term

Welcome to the Summer Term, I hope you had a lovely Easter.  Already the diary is beginning to fill up with school events , excursions and activities.   We would like parents to become more involved in planning exciting learning opportunities.   On Wednesday the first of May from 6.00 pm – 7.00 pm the teaching staff will be hosting a drop- in session  to share the topics being covered by their class this term.
We value your involvement and  would love you to contribute any new ideas and suggestions.   Please come along and join in this new joint venture.

Regards

Mrs Burns
