If I had a hammer!
This week the children have been very busy exploring our new tool area. They have been drilling, hammering, measuring and sanding. We have all been so proud at how carefull the children have been and how everyone has followed the safety instructions when using the tools . The children have started risk assessing the area themselves, reminding each others to put on the safety googles and stay back.

Stay and play
Thank you to everyone that managed to come to stay and play yesterday. It is a great opportunity for your child to show you all the different play activities they enjoy at nursery and for you to see a wee snippet of their day.
Stay and play is the first Monday of the month, morning sessions 8.45am till 9.45am afternoon session is 12.10pm till 1.10pm.
Date for the Diary – P3/4 Shopping trip
Through their health and well being topic the children are learning about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. On Tuesday 9 October we will visit our local Lidl to investigate different food options and buy ingredients to make and eat a healthy snack on return to school.
No money is required and children should still bring or order their own lunch as normal.
If your child has any dietary restrictions that we are not yet aware of please advise Mrs Strain as soon as possible.
Thank you
Dinosaur fun in the woods
Today we searched for different sizes of leaves on the way to the woods, the children then sorted them into size order small medium and large. Some of us stopped for a while and watched the wind blowing the leaves, noticing how the wind gusts strong and soft and how quickly the clouds moved in the sky changing its colour. Mrs Morton offered the children a chance to help her on a dinosaur hunt, 4 had gone missing in the woods. The children searched high and low , looking in trees and the undergrowth. Some children built dinosaur dens to keep them safe, while Miss Gardner helped the children to build traps to catch more. Miss Fraser invited the children to identify numbers and place the correct amount of sticks or leaves on them. What a busy day in the woods!
Reading Events
Dear Parent/Carer,
As part of our work to promote a reading culture a number of events will be taking place this term. We are excited to announce that we have been chosen to launch The Sun newspaper Books for Schools Campaign. The reading bus will be with us on 2nd November from 9.30 am. It will be parked in front of the the main office. Pupils will be able to go on the bus to work with a storyteller.
Photographs will be taken in the school and we will be in the Scottish Sun newspaper on the 3rd of November.
We will be collecting tokens from the Scottish Sun Books for School campaign and will be able to use them to purchase books for our new Library.
Following the great success of The Big Spooky Read last year, we invite parents and family members to come to the school with their children at 8.30 am – 9.00 am wearing Hallowe’en costumes and share a book with their children. This year it will be held in the hall to allow parents to share a story with all of their children at once. Books will be available in the school or you can bring a favourite one from home.
New Library
As part of developing our reading culture we are setting up the spare room as a library. The existing room is too small. Each classroom has an Imagination Station and will have their door decorated inspired by a class novel.
New reading materials, non-fiction books and professional library resources will be available in the Library.
Scholastic Book club will take place in the spare room. It will arrive on the 9th, be here for parents’ night and stay until the 12th of October. Class visits will be timetabled to allow pupils to browse. Order slips will be in the room to allow pupils to record the title and cost of their choice and take the slip home.
Information about the Hallowe’en parties will be shared after the Parent Council Meeting on Wednesday 3rd October.
Regards
Mrs Burns

Primary 2 Clicker Art and Blue Bots
Primary 2 are budding artists! Clicker Art is inspiring – perhaps mums and dads can have a go when they come to meet the teacher on Wednesday!
And what is a Blue Bot anyway? Find out more by asking a primary 2 or come along and have a go.
Then you will be ready for a coffee and some cake!
