We have been learning:

• to read and write words using the sound ‘ow’ (flow, grow, show)
• to make amounts of money using coins
• to make bracelets and decorations for our Christmas fair

We have been learning:

• to use our number facts to help us add and subtract
• to read and write words using the phoneme ‘ew’
• to use our creativity to make a winter picture

Mass will be celebrated in school on Thursday the 28th of November at 10.00am.

We will celebrate the Mass for the feast of St Andrew although his feast falls on Saturday 30th.

Everyone is invited to wear some tartan.

The fun continues at Lego Club with our Christmas builds. Today saw the children working collaboratively to build Santa, who was looking particularly trim, and one of his elves!

We also took some time today to discuss what we liked about Lego Club and reflect on which roles we enjoyed most.

The Christmas builds at Lego Club are up and running! Our members had to work particularly well together last week to co-construct a reindeer and some holly WITHOUT instructions! They used their observation skills and knowledge of the bricks when looking at the model photograph and jointly built different sections of the reindeer. They guided each other, gave feedback and even evaluated the build before making improvements. It was a great team effort!

This week we:

• looked at ways to multiply 2 digit numbers mentally
• acted out the scene we had created from our class novel, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
• wrote the final draft of  our acrostic poem
• delivered presentations to the class on the building of our Anderson shelters, and
• started to make items to sell at our Christmas Fayre.

We have been learning:

• to read and write words using the sound ‘au’
• to sole word problems involving capacity and weight
• about transport in different parts of the world

Some of the boys and girls have been exploring ice this week, They brought ice in from the outdoor learning area and watched it melt, they then measured how much water the ice had turned into using a jug they were then able to identify that the ice had turned into half a jug of water. The boys and girls then decided they would re-freeze the ice by putting it in the freezer because “The freezer is colder than the fridge”. Some other boys and girls have been discussing who is taller. We measured the boys and girls to discover who was the tallest. We have also been on walks this week and discovered seasonal changes.
What a great week at St Joseph’s!

Our Lego Club members felt a great sense of achievement last week as they completed another model. This model was built over a couple of weeks where the children took turns in each of the roles and built up enough Lego points to earn some free play! We are looking forward to start building some Christmas themed models next.

• to use the sounds ‘ue’, ‘aw’ and ‘oi’ in our reading and writing
• about how to safely cross the road
