P3/2 having fun with water.

Primary 3/2 have been learning about litres and millilitres.

A few weeks we were trying to fill a 1 litre jug using different sized containers.

Today we we’re practising reading scales on different sized containers. We also counted how many times we had to use the 100ml jug to fill the 1 litre jug. It was 10 times which was a total of 1000ml.

We now know the 1000ml equals 1 litre.

October Update

A huge welcome back after our mid-term break. We hope to continue the hard work and success we have had since the start of term.   The children have settled well into their new routines and are making great progress.

We welcome also, our new members of staff, Mr Paton-Day, P5 and Miss Coleman, P3/2.  We are sure they will enjoy their time here in St. Joseph’s.

During the October holidays, Miss Duffy was married during a beautiful ceremony, surrounded by family and friends.  She returns, as the new Mrs Fraser.  We wish her and her husband well.

We would like to congratulate, Mrs Thomson and her family on the birth of her new baby boy, Riley.  Mum and baby are doing well!

We would like to thank you for the positive response to Parental consultations, your support is very much appreciated.

During this term, extracurricular clubs will commence.  Further details of what is on offer will follow, once the details have been confirmed.

Dates for your diary have been attached and we are hopeful that further Christmas celebrations will take place.  However, this is dependent on the Covid-19 mitigations that are constantly under review.

As always, the school is supporting the West Lothian Foodbank this year.  A list of requested items is attached. The final day for donations is 12th November 2021.

Fun with Magnets in P3/2

This week we have been learning about magnetism.

We know that magnets are attracted to some special metals and that these magnets have a North and and South pole.

We took part in several games and activities involving magnets.

#1 We predicted which objects we thought would be attracted to a magnet and then used a magnet to checked if we were right.

#2 We searched a treasure chest for magnetic objects.

#3 We tried to find the strongest magnet by counting how many paper clips it could pick up.

#4 We played a magnetic fishing game and tried to pick up Spongebob characters.

#5 We had to find objects around the classroom which were attracted to a magnet.

#6 We had to pick up spiders with hidden numbers underneath and then count up our total points at the end of the game.

This week in Primary 2/1 – 17th September 2021

We have had another very busy week in Primary 2/1.

We have been:

  • Learning the i sound and the sh phoneme
  • Using our magnetic boards to form our letters and building words with our phonemes.
  • Retelling the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
  • Counting objects up to 10 and working on addition strategies.
  • Learning about how we are all unique and our fingerprints.
  • Learning all about our heart and the important jobs it does.
