Secure use of GLOW
Good afternoon,
Can I please remind you that GLOW and in particular TEAMS are secure areas for staff to work with children. Passwords should not be shared and no adults should be contacting class teachers through these sites. Please use the school email to contact us. You will find this on the recent letter sent to you from the Head of Service.
Thank you
Mrs Burns

Update
Dear Parent/Carer
As we enter a period of school closures, the following arrangements are in place to ensure that your child’s learning can continue throughout this time.
The key source of learning will be using online platforms (virtual learning environment) however alternative arrangements will be made by individual schools for pupils for whom online learning is not suitable.
For children attending the nursery, suggested learning experiences that can be completed within the home will be provided on the school/nursery blog https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/wl/StJosephsPS/ .
For children in P1-P3, teachers will provide a set of appropriate learning experiences that can be completed at home. These will be shared through our school blog https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/wl/StJosephsPS/. Your child has been provided with a jotter to record their learning and there will be an opportunity for them to share this when they return to school.
Children in P4-P7 are part of their class Microsoft 0365 Team, which can be accessed through their Glow account. Your child requires their Glow username and password to access their Team, and they are familiar with how to use this platform. Information for parents on how their child uses Teams is available at bit.ly/wlglowguide
It is expected that your child accesses their Team daily to engage with the learning experiences being provided by their teacher. The platform provides a function for your child to share their learning with their teacher and receive feedback where appropriate and support where required.
The use of Teams for communication is for learning purposes only between staff and pupils and ensures the safety of all users.
Parents / Carers who have any questions or require further information should use the following contact details.
wlstjosephwhit-ps@westlothian.org.uk
Our school team will continue to provide all available support to your child and family where we can during this challenging period.
More detailed information on learning will be issued by your child’s school. https://www.westlothian.gov.uk/coronavirus-schools
Information from West Lothian Council
Information from West Lothian Council regarding school closures
We note today’s announcement by the First Minister regarding schools closing to pupils from Monday 23 March. We are awaiting further details from the Scottish Government, and will confirm details with pupils and parents/carers as soon as we can. Extensive preparations have already been made for this situation and we will work to maintain learning and to support students at this difficult time.

Tennis After School Club
Good morning all
Following on from Simon Yapp’s (Tennis Revolution) Tennis Taster sessions he delivered in your schools I would like to share with you more details about the after school session we are promoting.
Active Schools in partnership with West Lothian Council verified club Tennis Revolution are now taking bookings for the 4-11 year old Tennis For Kids after school club at Whitburn Academy.
The Tennis for Kids after school club programme is a fun introduction for kids aged between 4 and 11 who may have little or no experience playing tennis before. The Tennis sessions are packed full of games and drills to get kids active, it also gives parents the chance to join in too.
Tennis for Kids includes six tennis sessions led by an accredited LTA coach (Simon from Tennis Revolution), a racket and ball set, and a personalised t-shirt
The first block of Tennis lessons will take place on Thursdays starting Thursday 12th March through to Thursday 30th April (Excluding Thursday 9th and 15th April) at Whitburn Academy Small Gym.
The sessions will be divided into 2 age groups 4-7 and 8-11 year olds. The 4-7 year old session will start at 3.45pm to 4.45pm and the 8-11 year old session will be from 4.50pm to 5.50pm
As the Tennis for Kids programme is a Lawn Tennis Association programme all registrations and bookings must be done with the following website link https://tinyurl.com/t8xwkrq
The Tiny Url link will direct you straight to the booking pages for the 2 Whitburn Academy sessions. Alternatively Parents can search for sessions at www.tennisforkids.co.uk and type in their postcode
The cost is £25 (+£4.99 P&P) for a block of 6 lessons which includes a racket and ball set, and a personalised t-shirt all posted to the participants home address prior to the programme starting
