Day 11: Baby Chicks

Today we carried out experiments to see if the baby chicks liked different kinds of food.

We offered them; apple, cucumber, potato, lettuce, corn on the cob, toast, carrot, normal chick feed, meal worms and live worms (freshly dug up from the garden).

There was a little bit of interest in the meal worms and live worms (after the chicks worked out what they were) and lots of interest in their normal chick feed.

As for the fruit and veg, they were less than enthusiastic and just ignored most of it.

Not interested in the potato.

Not interested in the lettuce.

We’ve loved learning how to care for the chicks and handle them safely.

Two chicks who are not convinced that eating a worm is a good idea.

Primary 1 also popped in for a wee visit and got to see the chicks up close.

Tomorrow we say goodbye to the chicks. It’s going to be a sad day!
