The Science of Making Bread

Yesterday P6W made bread.

We’ve been learning about microorganisms in science and decided to put our learning to the test.

We mixed flour, yeast (the magical ingredient), water, salt and vegetable oil to make a dough. We kneaded it, proved it (twice), formed it into rolls and then baked it. Finally we got to taste it in class. It was delicious!!

In literacy, we’ve also been learning about the important of writing a clear set of instructions. We were able to evaluate the recipe we had and discuss what aspects of the instructions made it easy for us to follow.

Group A: Our fabulous bakers!
Group B: More fabulous bakers!
Mixing all our ingredients together. This is very messy!
Kneading the dough. This was hard work!

More kneading.
Proving. The microorganisms are now doing their job.
Forming the dough into rolls.
Making two rolls each.
Egg wash before baking.

… and finally eating. This was the best bit!

Well done boys and girls!
