Another busy week in P1S!
In literacy we have been learning our new sounds f, u and b. We are becoming more confident in making words on our magnetic boards and we are remembering to use our sound boxes to help us. This week we started learning our common words, these are words that we can’t sound out. Miss Stebbing was very happy when we started to find these words in our books. We have been using the mini whiteboards to practise writing our sounds correctly. Here is a link to a game to help us remember how to form the letters correctly.

In maths we met three new animals in our Number Zoo. Ask us all about Snappy Six, Spotty Seven and Amazing Eight. We all found it a bit of a challenge to write 8 correctly but we know that good learners never give up so we have been writing this number on the whiteboards, the smartboard and even with the little coloured lights!
In art we were looking at different patterns, it was great fun to find patterns inside our shoes, on our jackets, our socks and even on the clothes mums and dads were wearing when we were getting collected at the end of the day! We had a look at home for patterns too and we shared this with the class during carpet time. Miss Stebbing helped us to learn all about repeating patterns. We made our own repeating patterns using the penguins and cubes. We also had to complete some repeating patterns by using pictures of dinosaurs and the characters from Frozen.
Last week we went on a tour of the school and saw all the different areas. We met some of the teachers in the upper area and Mrs Johns was talking to us while we were sitting in the reception area. This week we looked at a bird’s eye view of the school using Google Earth. We noticed that the pictures of Google Earth were old as we couldn’t see the trim track, the hill, the MUGA or the sandpit.
In PE with Mrs Paterson we have been working hard on our throwing and catching skills.
On Thursday we had our first visit to the woodland for some outdoor learning. During this lesson we got a chance to explore the woodland and to learn about the rules for keeping safe. We also had to use leaves and twigs to complete pictures of hedgehogs and owls. We even had our story time outside! Miss Stebbing was very proud of us as we listened well to instructions and made fantastic pictures.
Here are some photographs of our learning experiences this week.
