P5S Microorganisms Investigation

In P5 we have been investigating helpful and harmful microorganisms. We decided that Mr Stink has very poor personal hygiene and that he was probably covered in lots of different microorganisms!

We conducted an experiment to test how many microorganisms we have on our hands before and after washing them. We wiped our hands all over bread after playtime, then washed our hands and wiped them on a clean piece of bread. We left the bread in a moist bag and left the microorganisms to grow over a couple of weeks.

The results were quite disgusting! We noticed that there was more microorganisms on the bread we touched with dirty hands and that there were many different types.

P5 did a super job of making a hypothesis, recording their observations and making a conclusion. It was a great start to our scientific enquiry this year!

We will all be washing our hands with hot, soapy water much more regularly!
