Hello Parents and Families of P1D
The boys and girls have been extremely busy this week at school! Lots of learning has been going on in Primary 1. Learning our sounds began on Monday and we very quickly discovered as the week progressed, that if we put these sounds together, that words can be made! We used magnetic letters to word build at, pat, nap, tap and tan! We also practised writing these on whiteboards. We were very excited to discover the word ‘pat’ in our milk time story and Mrs Devlin showed it to us on the smartboard, under the visualiser. We hope to keep finding the different words we are learning in our environment.
During Maths lessons this week we met a little animal called Penguin One from a Number Zoo. He helped us learn all about the number 1. We are excited to meet the other animals over the coming weeks too and be able to correctly form these numbers also. We sorted straws, dominoes, paper clips, sticks, fruit and stinky socks! We learned that each group is called a ‘set’.
Continuing on from our Science and RE lesson last week, we have been learning more about our senses and made paper plate faces to show some of our body parts. It also helped us to realise that we are all different. Some of us have blonde, brown or black hair (no red heads in the class) and some of us have brown, green, blue or hazel eyes. We learned another song this week called, ‘I Look in the Mirror’ (Lyrics – I look in the mirror and what do I see? Two eyes and a nose and a mouth and that’s me. At school on my copies I’ve written my name. It’s special, it’s mine, no one else has the same.)
We had our photograph taken with our buddy during the week. Our buddies have been very helpful to us. They play with us at break time and lunch time, line us up at the bell and help us make friendships. A few buddies were off school when the photographs were taken so we will take theirs upon their return.
We welcome another new pupil to our class this week called Aryaman. Like all the boys and girls, he is settling in very well and quickly learning our rules and routines. You are very welcome Aryaman.
Finally, this week, as part of our whole school approach, Mrs Devlin introduced an important role that each person will one day have the opportunity to fulfil and that is of ‘Lead Learner’. A Lead Learner tells a visitor to our classroom what we are learning. They also take photographs of the learning (some of them are below) and observe the learning going on inside the classroom. Mrs Devlin writes down comments they make about ‘who is doing good work’ and ‘how do we know’ inside the’ Lead Learner Journal’. This week’s Lead Learner was Niamh. Niamh is wearing a special necklace to let everyone know that she is this week’s Lead Leaner.
Photos of the learning experiences in P1D will be entered into the Blog once all parents have completed the permission form for photos to be taken that was in their ‘Welcome Pack’.
