Settling in and Emotions

A warm and happy welcome back to the new term! We have lots of fun and exciting learning opportunities and adventures in store for the children.

We are starting the session by looking at emotions and friendships. This is a very exciting time for the children as they are learning the new rules and routines of nursery life, making new friends and sharing their thoughts and feelings throughout this process.

The children have been meeting our Mood Monsters.

They aim to help the children think about how they are feeling and talking about it amongst their peers.  The children can select their name upon entering nursery and place it on one of our mood monsters.

This is a lovely way to engage with the children and encourages lots of discussion amongst their peers.  It also helps them to develop an awareness of their feelings and understanding different emotions.  We will be building on this when discussing friendships and the importance of being kind, fair and respectful towards others.

The children have enjoyed talking about personal experiences as the build friendships, discussing what makes them happy, sad, worried, angry and so on…..

“I really like chocolate cake. That is when I am happy” Hope

Eva “I am happy when I hug Amelia. She is my friend!”

“When I play games I am happy. I like sandy girl” Macey

Zoe “Evie and Lewis are my friends. We play outside”
