We are looking to raise awareness of Save the Children’s Wear your Christmas Jumper day this year. Wednesday 7 December is our Christmas Lunch and we thought it was fitting to encourage the children to wear a Christmas/Winter jumper to school – there is no need to bring in a donation on this occasion. Further details can be found at:

Primary 4 to Primary 7 enjoyed another inspiring and informative visit from David yesterday. David introduced the children to ‘augmented reality’ a real breakthrough in using technology and literature. David will be at Waterstone’s bookstore in Livingston on Saturday for book signing from 11 am. From 1 pm onwards the children can be involved in a range of games and activities.

David Goutcher recently contacted the school to organise a visit to speak with our P4-P7 pupils. David has a new book out and he enjoyed himself so much when he was here earlier in the year that he wants to come back to share this with the children. We look forward to listening to David on Wednesday morning.

Our Morrison’s Champion, Ms Hendry, has been able to involve Meldrum Primary in a special ‘tree planting’ project. Morrisons donated an apple tree for planting and a basket of apples for the school. Our P5 pupils will be involved in planting the tree (when weather permits!) and they all enjoyed an apple. The remaining apples were distributed to some of our Rainbow Room and Breakfast Club children.

This week is Book Week Scotland and the P1 pupils will bring home their bookbug bags today (Monday 21 November). Bookbug Bags are free and full of brilliant books and goodies for you to share with your child. We hope you’ll enjoy exploring and developing a love of reading together at home.
Bags are given to every child in Scotland, from birth to Primary 1. Your child will receive four bags in total: Baby Bag, Toddler Bag, Pirate Bag and the P1 Family Bag. There are also Gaelic versions of each bag available. Further information about the stories can be found on the scottish book trust website.
Primary 2 and Primary 3 pupils have received their ‘Read, Write, Count’ bags. Read, Write, Count is a new campaign to support parents of children in primaries 1 to 3 who want to take a more active role in their children’s learning.
Read, Write, Count’s website gives lots of simple ideas for working fun reading, writing and counting activities into your daily life. These are things you can do while shopping, on the way to school, at bedtime or mealtimes. You can have fun and help your child get the best start in life!
Read, Write, Count also gifts free bags of books, counting games and writing materials to all children in P2 and 3. Writing and counting materials were added to the Bookbug Primary 1 Family Bag. We hope you enjoy using these resources to support your child with suggested activities.

This is National Anti-Bullying Week and the theme is ‘Power for Good’. This ties in well with our school values – respect, honesty, kindness, responsibility and perseverence. Members of the Think Tank Group have been going around classes reminding children of strategies to use if they are being bullied. Cyber bullying is increasing and this is something we are working hard on in Meldrum Primary. Childline advise that the statistics are up 90% over the last year where children are seeking advice on issues regarding cyber bullying. Some guidance for parents can be found on the following two links:
