A Polish Story
Treasure Island in A2
For book week, A2 were reading ‘Treasure Island’ by Robert Louis Stevenson. We enjoyed reading all about the different pirates and the adventure the main character, Jim Hawkins had. We really enjoyed all the learning experiences we took part in from team work in escaping treasure island and back to the ship with only 3 crates and a couple of planks (thankfully no one had to walk the plank!) to detailed pen drawings of our own treasure maps. We were really proud of our display we created and sharing it with parents during our turn for the pop up book cafe.
Christmas comes to Blackburn Primary
As the nativity and pantomime practices take over and with pva glue and glitter flying all over the school for Christmas crafts each class found time to add a bit of Christmas cheer to the hall.
This year as our focus in school is on raising the profile of reading we have each decided to focus on a Christmas book.
P1/2: The Jolly Christmas Postman
A1: The Christmas Tale of Peter Rabbit
P2/3: The Snowman
A2: The Polar Express
P4/5: Father Christmas
P6/7: How the Grinch stole Christmas
Exciting visitor in P2/3
P2/3 Book Week
Wow, what a great time P2/3 had during book week! Not only did we have special visits from 3 authors but P2/3 became authors and illustrators themselves. The children created a sequel to one of their favourite stories ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’. P1/2 children were invited along to the book launch of ‘The Day the Crayons were Happy’.
The children were also kept very busy organising and running the book swap stall which proved to be very popular!
They also had great fun at the CAPER and P6/7 reading cafe getting all cosied up with some hot chocolate and marshmallows!
Christmas Post in A1
Well it is that time of year once again and A1 have been super busy preparing for the Christmas Post! We will be sorting and delivering all the letters to the pupils and staff in the school each day. Please ensure that you put the first name, surname and primary class on the envelope to help us when sorting your cards.
Book Week
This week P4/5, P6,7 and A2 have been visited by: 2 fantastic story tellers called Ruth Kirkpatrick and Gerry Durkin and one author called David Goucher. All the children were thrilled by the visits and could not contain their excitement over being given a signed copy of David Gouchers book by Miss Clarkson.
