A1 and A2 explore the world of Science!

What a trip we had!  A1 and A2 spent the day at the Glasgow Science Centre and had an absolute ball.  We learned lots of things about how the body works including inflating lungs and pumping blood round the body.  We explored electricity and how there are lots of different ways to make it. Our favourite part had to be the optical illusions – the tricks that can be played on our eyes was something quite amazing.

We finished our trip with a workshop in the Planetarium.  This was to finish off our learning about Space and the Planets.  We enjoyed star gazing, travelling through space, landing on Mars and looking at the stunning views from the Space Station.

Here’s a selection of our photos! It was so difficult to decide which ones to show!

The works of art you’ve all been waiting for!

We have now finally finished our master pieces with our very own handmade paint brushes made of sticks, leaves, grass and nature.  Our paintings are of nature including trees, hills, grass, apples, flowers and some of us are always hopeful for a blue sky!

We hope you like them.  We were surprised at the results and how well our paint brushes worked! They have now been displayed in our Outdoor Classroom.

A2 get creative outdoors!

A2 have been busy learning in the Sensory Garden and the Outdoor Classroom this week.  Our job was to find some interesting objects and then use them to create a picture.  We had everything from a chef cooking a chocolate cake to a character called ‘Leafy’ in a boat.  We spent some time writing imaginative stories to match our pictures – definitely something to have a read of!

We were then tasked with the job of creating and making our own paint brushes.  We searched high and low for different materials like sticks, grass and all sorts of leaves.  You’ll just have to watch this space to see the art we created with them!

Magic Wand Walk

The children in Primary 1/2 enjoyed a fantastic walk in our local woodland area today to collect sticks suitable for making magic wands. On our return to class, the children created their own magic wand using collage materials which they proudly showed off. They then used their magic wands to make a wish which they wrote about during this afternoon’s writing session. What a busy, fun day!!

Anyone for SMORES??

What an amazing day today.  We talked a lot about being safe around a campfire and made posters to show our knowledge.  The children helped to get ready for the fire building activity by collecting a buckets of water and sand to put the fire out quickly if we needed to.  They arranged the bricks around the campfire and collected sticks to fuel the fire.  We tried to light our fire using a flint but it was a little bit windy so we resorted to good old matches.  Once the flames were big enough we roasted marshmallows on the fire and they were YUMMY! Even the parents tried a few!

P2/3 French baking

The children in P2/3 were making some yummy French cuisine today.  This was our first practise in preparation for entering the ‘linguachef’ competition.  As part of entering the competition the children will now have to write their own recipe and create a power point presentation.

We have decided to make ‘palmiers’ for this with a bit of a Scottish twist!  We won’t give away all of our secrets just yet but if you would like to try a simple palmier recipe then visit the link below!

Rowanbank

We had an amazing outdoor experience when Rowanbank came to visit us at Hopefield Nursery!

Granny Like-a-Leaf arrived at our nursery and took us on a magical journey to find the Golden Teapot!

The pupils, parents/carers and staff had a superb time meeting the Treehopper and the Treeswinger when we were out at the local forest.  We even managed to find the Golden Teapot and have some lovely nettle tea and oaty biscuits.

Wonder if we will see them the next time we are in the forest!!
