Christmas comes to Blackburn Primary

As the nativity and pantomime practices take over and with pva glue and glitter flying all over the school for Christmas crafts each class found time to add a bit of Christmas cheer to the hall.

This year as our focus in school is on raising the profile of reading we have each decided to focus on a Christmas book.

P1/2: The Jolly Christmas Postman

A1: The Christmas Tale of Peter Rabbit

P2/3: The Snowman

A2: The Polar Express

P4/5: Father Christmas

P6/7:  How the Grinch stole Christmas

Book Week

This week P4/5, P6,7 and A2 have been visited by: 2 fantastic story tellers called Ruth Kirkpatrick and Gerry Durkin and one author called David Goucher. All the children were thrilled by the visits and could not contain their excitement over being given a signed copy of David Gouchers book by Miss Clarkson.

Welcome back P4/5

The children in P4/5 are off to an amazing start to the year. As well as settling into all the new class routines they have been learning how to be fantastic bucket fillers. After hearing a story about how saying and doing nice things makes us feel nice we have been focusing on compliments a lot.

Feel free to ask your child if they have filled any buckets today? I’m sure they will have.

Lagganlia Day 3 evening and Day 4

On Wednesday evening the children went for a blindfolded rope walk and thoroughly loved it. On Thursday one group went for an all day mountain hike making use of all the skills that they had learned the previous days. The other group went Skiing again in the morning and in the afternoon went to an assault course that was designed to promote team working. Although this was a huge challenge the children all mostly had fun and learned a lot.

Lagganlia Day 2 evening & Day 3

On Tuesday evening after dinner we played a game of rounders and then after dinner were taken out to build a fire and have some marshmallows. It was then off to bed for a well earned rest in preparation for Wednesday morning. On Wednesday one group went kayaking in the morning whilst the other were taken gorge walking. The groups then changed activities in the afternoon and the morning gorge walkers went kayaking and the other group went bouldering. Another fun day was had by all.

Lagganlia Day 2

After settling in on day 1 we were all up bright and early (some earlier than other) and we split into our two groups for the week. In the morning one group went gorge walking and the other went bouldering. Both groups came together in the afternoon to try their hands (and feet) at Skiing. There were many challenges the children faced throughout the day and all were met with determination and resilience. Above all everyone had great fun and im sure you will see that in the pictures.

Burns Assembly

Here are a selection of pictures from the Burns assembly. I am sure you will agree each class did amazing with their performances. We would like to say a huge congratulations once again to all our poetry recital competition winners. You all did a fantastic job.

John Muir outdoor learning presentation

After working hard all week I am sure you will all agree that the children did a fantastic job with helping to create today’s presentation. From the voice recordings to the amazing display it all looked wonderful.  I feel that the John Muir experience has really impacted on the children in a really positive way and I hope it will be something that they can look back on with fond memories. I have had to take the video files out of the power point as it was too large to upload.
