We looked to Star Wars to help us with our Maths this week. We used different strategies to solve problems and all the correct answers revealed Princess Leia and Chewbacca. We found fractions and percentages of quantities, and even answered our mental maths question in less than three seconds.  We are going to need these skills next week as we are going shopping in Diagon Alley with Harry, Hermione and Ron!

Harry Potter set us a task in writing this week to write an imaginary story set in Hogwarts which featured a mythical creature created by us.  After we had done this we were then told we have to design our creature in 3 d from our descriptions in our Writing, and then we are going to sculpt them out of clay in Art! We can’t wait to continue this next week.  Talking of Harry – at Hogwarts School of Science this week we learned about heating and cooling materials.  We are sure Professor Snape will be very impressed!

Have a great week everyone!

P6B

Forget texting folks – use Owl Mail!  Thats what we did this week when Professor Albertus Dumbledore invited us to join Hogwarts School of Science.  We all accepted and have already started finding out about soluable and insoluable substances.  We had great fun carrying out lots of experiments and recording our results so that we can put them all together in a Scientific Report.

We have started rehearsals for our show and have been working with Ms Logan who is a professinal choreographer!  We impressed her with our moves and she was delighted to see none of us have two left feet!

Have a good weekend!

P6B

Thank you to everyone who came to our Open Afternoon.  We hoped you enjoyed it as much as we did!  We loved reading your comments on our graffitti wall, and are really proud that you were all impressed with the work we did on the Rainforest.  We are leaving the Rainforest now and are jumping aboard Hogwarts Express which will take us to Professor Dumbledore’s School of Science. We are looking forward to concocting lots of potions, looking at chemical reactions and magnetic forces.

This week we also had our introduction to the P6 Show which will be The Rocky Monster Show.  Auditions will be held soon, so we will keep you updated!

It’s been a great first term in P6 and Mrs Haddifon is very proud of all the hard work and effort we have put in to our learning!

Have a super holiday everyone!!

P6A

We thought our Open Afternoon went extremely well. We performed our Dance/Drama in front of our friends and family, and hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

Almost all of us have delivered our class talk, and we taught Mrs Innes a few things about the Rainforest.  She was very impressed with our knowledge and understanding.

In Maths the Hexagons and Pentagons have been working on equivalent and simplifying fractions, and the Triangles have been learning about multiplication and division facts. Freya said “we found this tricky…”.

We rounded off a busy week at church for our Harvest Celebration, and the singing was awesome!

It’s been an exciting week for us this week. We all became journalists and reported on a story for our Newspaper. Stories ranged from Man U v’s Aresenal to our new school mascot, and came complete with photographs.

Viggo – I liked the Newspaper article, because you could write about whatever you wanted.

Aaron’s favourite part of the week was learning about Le Tour Eiffel in French.

Millie – I enjoyed making the board game in vertical learning and using lots of new skills.

William – I loved getting my letter telling me I am able to learn an instrument. I enjoyed learning to say the different places in French.

Iona – I learned how to work out percentages on the calculator – but only after Mrs haddifon made us work it out mentally!

We are looking forward to seeing you all at our open afternoon on Monday where we will be showcasing all our rainforest learning.

Have a good weekend!

P6A

What a busy week we’ve had!

In maths, the Hexagons have almost completed work on place value. We will complete a final assessment of this next week!

In reading, we have been looking at characters, their qualities and finding textual evidence to support what we have written… not an easy task!

As part of our LAC, we have written poems about the Rain Forest that contain similes. We are really pleased with our finished results. They are mounted on our classroom display for our open afternoon, on Monday, and parents’ evenings. Also as part of LAC, we have finalised our dance/drama performance of, ‘The Rain Forest’. On Monday, at our open afternoon, we would like to perform this for our parents/friends. This will take place at 2.35p.m in the drama hall. We are also performing for our target audience, primary 4/3, on Tuesday afternoon.

We have begun looking towards what we would like to share in our Profile Jotters for the month of October.

Another busy week in primary 6A…. and another busy week ahead! We are going to find out more about our primary 6 musical on Friday, and we will know about the auditions schedule for the beginning of next term!

P6B

Hello Everyone!  Well our open afternoon is getting closer (12/10) with invitations to you all going out on Monday. We are looking forward to showcasing all our work especially or simile poems which we worked on this week.

Millie – I thought it was fun.

Aidan – I learned about similes and I can tell you one – feel free to ask me!

We all think they are as cool as a cucumber……..

In outdoor p.e. we were learning about communication.  We had an obstacle course that we had to do blindfolded then get herded into a pen!  Of course our partner wasn’t blindfolded and they had to guide us by only talking.

Jack – it was fun but I was terrible at it!

Aaron – It’s really hard to know where you are going and when your partner is talking you don’t know where you are going.

Liam – It was quite confusing because you could hear other people giving instructions as well.

P6B

A huge thank you to Tracey from Tesco who came in this week for our rainforest fruit tasting session.  Lots of us tried new fruits and found out where they came from.

Millie – I had never tasted any of them except the pineapple, and I loved the mango and blueberries.

Jamie – It was delicious!

Aaron – My favourite was the pineapple, it was really sweet.

Viggo – It was really nice – my favourite was the Papaya.

We were looking at credit and debit cards in maths.  We found out how much interest we could be charged and the Galaxy’s had to work out interest rates!

We also started a new class novel and made fact files about the rainforest, then to finish the week off we went to the McMillan Coffee Morning this morning. We all had a cake and juice.  Some of us met up with our parents too.  It was a great event for a great cause, and a big thank you from us to all the ladies who helped!

All this and we only had two and a half days in school!  Phew, we need a relaxing weekend.  Enjoy!

P6B

This week in P6B we made terraniums, which are mini-ecosystems. We made them so that we could see how an ecosystem works in a rainforest.

Millie – It was really fun.  It was cool learning that there was no water added, just the moisture in the moss.

Ryan – We put gravel then carbon, soil, the plant then the moss.

Brooke – It was fun and quite easy to make but you have to tap the bottles to make sure the moisture goes onto the plants.

Other things we learned this week were:

Jack – I liked how I do my spelling to the beat of the drum. It really helps me with my spelling.

Meadow – This week I liked testing my rainforest shelter to see if it was waterproof. It was thank goodness!

Daniel – I liked the solve and shade in maths. It’s a fun way to learn my tables.

Aaron – I liked the quick method to multiply by a multiple of ten. The concept was difficult but I kept at it then when I got it, Mrs Haddifon showed me the quick way to do it!

Valerija – I enjoyed doing our writing about flying through the rainforest.

We have the lady from Tesco visiting on Wednesday to let us taste different tropical fruits! Have a nice holiday everyone!

P6H

This week we had a visit from Callum from Cool Creatures which helped us learn more about the Rainforest.

Zoe – I liked holding the spider because it felt like it had cosy socks on.

David – I liked holding the millipedes because their wee feet felt like a comb.

Valerija – I liked holding the spider and now I am not scared of them!

Callum D – I liked holding the snake and feeling its muscles.

Millie – I liked holding the millipede because it felt like a toothbrush.

Callum helped us learn about the Rainforest because:

Reiss – He’s been there!

Viggo – It gave us a feel of what the creatures are like.

Aaron – Callum helped us because he knew a lot about the rainforest.

In maths it was time to move away from time(!) and we have started multiplication –

Aaron – I like doing the tables.

Brooke – I don’t really like them because the 6 & 7 are confusing and hard! But Mrs Haddifon said we will work on them together and they will soon be easy-peasy.

We also learned to play tunnel ball rounders in outdoor P.E.  and we had to use our communication and team skills. The boys stormed back from being 6-2 down to snatch the game 9-8 from the girls. Great team work and resilience boys!

P6B

Valerija thinks it has been a brilliant week this week, and Zoe agrees!  Here is what we have been up to:

Evie – We learned that in the rainforests you never build your shelter on the forest floor because it is mucky and creatures can get you!

Aaron – I enjoyed makig our rainforest display – it taught me about the different layers.

Polina – I enjoyed designing our shelters so that we can build them next week.

David – I enjoyed the vertical learning because I learned about different layers and I got to work with people I have never worked with before.

Zoe – I enjoyed doing the train timetable work in maths. It was hard but you could get the answer if you looked for the clues in the questions.

Jack – I liked when we went outside.

We are looking forward to handling some rainforest creatures next week!  Hope they are not all creepy crawly spiders! We are also excited about building our shelters and making our terranuiums.

P6B

This week has been jam-packed with learning! We started the week learning how to take notes.

Zoe – I learned to use notes to help with writing, how to organise notes clearly and use abbreviations. It is improtant to highlight the key facts.

James – You have to set out your facts clearly.

We used our notes to write about the Rainforest. – David.

Chris – You can get rubber from the Rainforest trees.

Aaron – You can’t really see the sun in the rainforest because the trees are so tall and packed.

Ryan – The rain creates mositure for the plants.

Callum N – People who live their mainly make their things out of the trees, and they build their houses high up to avoid lots of rain.

Brooke – You can get Cocoa and Vanilla from the trees.

William – They use plants for medicine.

Liam – They have wood fires.

Aidan – It rains 200 days a year.

Is that all? We think they should try living in Scotland!

We can’t wait until we see all the Cool Creatures at our handling session…….

P6H

This week we are going to take a wee wonder down memory lane as we remember our highlights in p6.

Josh – It’s gotta be our Harry Potter potions in science.

Ava – Loved the creative storywriting!

Sophie – Everything Harry Potter!

Emma – I liked doing the mythical creatures.

Sam – I loved the Space topic, and Olivia.

Megan – Olivia!

Taylor – I liked learning about the Caribbean Island – I wanted to go there.

Adam – My best thing was creating my best story ever!

Erin – I liked all the art we did.

Eve – I liked doing all the science experiments.

Lily – the Caribbean

Lucy – I liked the makey-makey music.

Well done to Rachel, Cameron and Eve on being successful in their applications to be House Captains.  We are really proud of you!

All that is left for us next week is our Sports Day and our Church Service because ….we re all going on a summer holiday….

P6H

Quite a short week this week, with the holiday and our moving on day.  We all loved being in P7 and are really excited by our new duties.  We have talked a lot about being responsible and being good role models as we go into P7 – all eyes are on us!

We carried on with solving equations this week and are getting on top of it.  We decided they are a bit like mysteries – and we all love a good mystery!

Talking about reading(!) we are now choosing our own novels until the end of term, and summarising and discussing them in class.

We have also made the most of the good weather by taking our learning outdoors and practicing spelling, maths and doing some art.

Have a good weekend, hope the weather stays good!

Hi everyone!

In maths this week we have been learning about function machines and equations.  We have really had to use all our mental maths skills and have been sharing our learning with each other.

Rachel – I liked learning about function machines, I am now really good at it but you have to know your times tables as well and counting.

Emma – I really like equations, I enjoy maths in p6.

Eve – I liked learning about function machines and equations because it was something I caught onto really quickly.

In Art we looked at texture and used our new skills to create wands for Harry Potter.

Adam – My wand is called ‘The Dragon Choker.’

Lucy – Mine was called ‘The Paintbrush’.

Carter – I made ‘The Dragon Slayer!’

We are going to use our wands next week in writing to create magical stories.

We also shared our stories from ‘Danger Night’ and scared Mrs Haddifon!

Good luck to Rachel Ava at the procession and Happy Newlands Day to everyone!

P6H

We have had a busy week in 6H with lots of learning happening.

The week started with our Sports Elective at the Sports Centre.  We have seen our skills improve whatever sport we  chose, and are sad that there are only two weeks left. In Health & Wellbeing we started learning about how our bodies change in puberty and what that will mean for us.

In other news, Joe won our float design competition and is currently munching his way through his prize!

Joe – My heart was pounding and I was like YES!

Sophie B learned a lot of new skills in Art this week.

Sophie – I learned how to use different line and shading techniques.

Ava – I liked learning new drawing skills.

While Josh learned about negative numbers in maths.

Josh – It was fun figuring out the answers.

Jordan – I liked subtracting negative numbers – it’s like you are almost counting backwards in a weird way!

Lily – Learning about millilitres in maths helped me make my potion in science!

We have also been reading Harry Potter as our class novel and using this to help us learn right across the curriculum.

P6H

Lots of learning this week – here’s what we thought:

Jamie – I liked writing our Dragon stories – we had to use lots of ambitious vocabulary and remember all our VCOP skills as well!

Emma – My self-portrait was fun.  I learned how to draw a face in proportion and I think it looked quite like me.

Josh – The display wall will look cool with all our self portraits on it.

Lucy – I liked using the formula when working out the volume of a cuboid. It looked really  hard but once it was explained it was really quite easy!

We have also been practicing our song for our Celebrating Success performance – and even though we say so ourselves we are looking good!

P6s Hogwarts School of Science – The First Experiment

Today we were learning about separating materials. We had to first of all decide what we could use to separate different kinds materials for example we would use a magnet to separate steel and copper nails. Once we looked at how to do this we then got to work making our potions.

After that we were given plastic bottles which Mrs Hay cut in half for us. We then had to put filtering paper inside. Then we were shown the different materials which were: coffee, hama beads, glitter, sand and rice.  We had to put some of each material in a small cup and then put some water over the top.  We then poured this mixture in to the bottles and waited to see what would happen.

Mostly the water turned brown but some were still quite light at the end. We then took some photos of our finished potions.

We had fun making our potions and putting the mixtures together. I enjoyed waiting to see what colour the water would turn.

We are all feeling a little sad this week as we said farewell to a very popular member of our class.  We enjoyed a farewell party and there were a few tears as the bell rang!

We have been doing Science experiments this week and are learning a lot of new vocabulary to help us. We have also been learning our song for our Celebrating Success performance, and we think you will like it……

We are looking forward to our wee break, and we will be back next week refreshed and ready to learn!
