Primary 6a

After the success of the P6 show, The Wizard of Oz, last week P6a have been settling back into some hard work in the classroon.

The Red group have been busy working on their subrtaction. The Blue, Maroon and Green groups ahve been learning about division.

Chloe: I learned how to divide with and without remainders. It was fun.

On Tuesday P6 went to a Hockey and Basketball festival at Bathgate Academy where the children competed in teams against other local schools. Two of our teams managed to gain third place, one in hockey and the other in basketball. A big well done to all the children who competed the medals for the winners should arrive next week.

Antonia –  My team played excellently with boys and girls working well together. I really enjoyed the hockey where I managed to score 5 times.

Also this week we have been looking at Climate Change and coming up with our own ideas about how to heat water or keep buildings warm using less energy. There have been some interesting ideas, including using sheep to mow your lawn instead of a lawn mower!

P1m Discover More about Life on a Real Scottish Island…..

This week, we have been busy thinking about what life on an island such as Struay might be like.

In preparation for the Visit of Reverend MacDonald, we collectively planned a range of questions to ask Rev. MacDonald.

Thank you to Reverend MacDonald for coming to the school to visit us.  We enjoyed looking at his interesting photographs of the Island of Lewis, and listening to his talk about Scottish island life. Reverend MacDonald’s photos stimulated even more questions from us and we all enjoyed finding out more about island life.  It turns out that life on the Isle of Lewis is very similar to life on Katie Morag’s island.

Hot lines of P1 questioning included animal and recreation related questions.  We were really keen to find out which animals live in the waters surrounding the island, and to learn that island life is far from boring, as there is a lot to do there.  We liked the fact that the island children get the chance to spend lots of time outdoors 🙂

Class 2

Another party in class 2. Callum will have a birthday on Sunday. We are not at school on a Sunday so we had a party on Friday. We made mini pizzas by pressing pasty cutters into a large pizza then cooking them. We ate the pizzas at the party. We played party games, danced and ate party food.
We have also have been learning lots. We are getting good at finding lines of symmetry, keeping safe on the Internet and writing stories.
Next week will be money focus week.
