Josh: It was good fun. I got to weigh out sweets. You were only allowed 2 ounces of sweets a week during the war. We made ration books.
Cary: Rationing was about sharing food out to make it fair for everyone. There was a set amount for each person. You had to use tokens from a ration book to but certain foods. I enjoyed tasting some of the foods afterwards.
Caitlin: This week we also wrote diary extracts about how we would feel when foods were rationed. I wrote about not being happy because there was not a lot of food to eat. There was not a lot of food because the Germans were bombing the ships bringing food into Britain.
Geordie: I really enjoyed trying the foods in the ration shop. I learnt that people were encouraged to grow as much as they could in their own gardens. I enjoyed being the shop keeper because I got to weigh the foods and take the coupons from the ration books.
Callum: I learnt that you had to use coupons because food was short. The ham and sweets were tasty. There were strict rules about how much foods you were allowed each week.
Nathan: I liked trying the biscuits. You didn’t get a lot of biscuits. They were rationed. This would not have been good. I love biscuits!
Hi Class 3
What interesting pieces of information about rationing you have shared. I don’t think I would like food to be rationed either Nathan, especially sweets. I like sweets.
