We have all planted a sunflower seed. We each planted one of four different varieties (types). They are Sunflower Giant, Sunflower Evening Sun, Sunflower Teddy Bear and Miniature Sunflowers Mixed.
We need to keep the compost moist but not too wet.
Keep them warm but not in direct sunlight.
TOP TIP ….. cover the pots with a clear plastic bag until you see the seed has germinated.
When they are strong enough they can be planted into a bigger pot outside.
Keep blogging to let us know how you are getting on!
Emma’s seedling…
Hi Primary 3h,
This sounds like a great challenge and I’m looking forward to hearing all about how your sunflowers are getting on.
Have a lovely weekend.
Miss Henderson
Thank you for the TOP TIP! I have put a bag on it 🙂
I have got mine sitting in my kitchen and I am keeping it watered. Can’t wait to see who’s grows the tallest!!
My sunflower is growing great. Ive kept it in the kitchen away from direct sunlight. Its been getting just enough water too.
I have used the tip and put mine in a plastic bag. I have kept it moist with water.
I put the bag on and now my sunflower is growing really quickly 🙂 we have been taking photos and will try to send them in.
Emma
My sunflower is about 5cm tall now. I’m watering it regularly and I keep it in the window upstairs.
Still no sign of my sunflower 🙁 I’m wondering if one is there!?
That’s not good news….did you remember to put it in? I do have some spare seeds if you need some 🙂
Yes please another one would be good! 🙂
Thanks to all of your tips my sunflower is growing much better now…you were right I was not giving it enough water!
Thanks
Miss Holwill
I have been so excited this week my sunflowers are growing. Miss Holwill’s tip worked with the plastic bag it is like it’s own little green house. I planted a few seeds and my tallest one is now 4cm.
My sunflower is only growing a little bit:-(
My Sunflower is still growing we have put it outside and it is enjoying the sun and rain.
My sunflower is still tiny so I think I must have a miniature one!
Look above for a photo of Emma’s one….
