Stop the Clock!

We have started our new maths topic and have enjoyed learning about time this week.

The boys in class 1 are already fantastic at checking their class and individual timetables.  We can all explain what is first, what is next and what is last on our timetables.

Every morning we say what day it was yesterday, what day it is today and what day it will be tomorrow.  We enjoy taking turns to write the date on the class calendar.  We like to look at our weekly and monthly timetable.  We can explain and show when key events are taking place.  We have noticed that it is Jayden’s birthday soon; we can’t wait to have a party in class 1!  We also enjoy singing our days of the week song and can sequence the days of the week into the correct order.

The boys in class 1 use a range of devices to help keep track of time such as sand timers and time timers.  This week we have been looking at analogue clocks.

“The class clock is a circle shape.”  Cameron

“Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick.”  Jayden

We can demonstrate the direction that the clock hands turn, and are beginning to recognise the minute, hour and second hand.  We made our own clocks by sticking the numbers in the correct order.

We have used our clocks to play fun time games in class 1.  We can set our clocks to ‘on the hour’ times and say ‘o’clock’ when telling the time.

Our favourite time game is called ‘Stop the Clock’.  We have to be very fast to match the time to the correct clock face and then press stop the clock.  We like to shout out ‘STOP THE CLOCK!’ when we have finished the game.  We are very good at praising our friends when they have completed the game.  Lewis even chose to play this game for Golden Time!

Cody has investigated how many seconds are in 1 minute.  Cody completed some 1 minute time challenges this week.

“I can make a cube tower with 33 cubes in 1 minute!”  Cody

“I can write my name 7 times in 1 minute!” Cody

  1. Hi Class 1,

WOW! You have been really busy learning all about time this week. The photographs are great and really show all of the different time activities you have been doing in class. Keep up the great work.

    Have a lovely weekend.

    Miss Henderson

  2. I love seeing your photographs each week Class 1. You are all working fabulously well together – I just tried it Cody, I can only make a tower with 31 cubes in a minute!
