This starts about half-way through February. We learned that this year, 2015 will be “The year of the goat” and the last time it was “The year of the goat” was in 2003. Our buddies told us “That was the year we were born!”
We learned about the story of Jade Emperor organising a race to measure time. Each animal would be honoured with a year depending on the order of them winning a race. The goat in the story worked in a team with the monkey and the rooster to cross the river. The P7’s helped us the work out that next year, 2016 will be “The year of the monkey”.
We played a game of “Chinese New Year snakes and ladders”. It was a race to reach 100 because if we landed on a dragon we had to slide down the page and hope to get back up a ladder. Our P7 buddies were great – they didn’t mind us having another shot if we got a six on the dice but they only took one shot when it was their turn.
In art, we learned about a lady artist who was born in America. Her name is Georgia O’Keeffe. She painted huge flowers close up and painted them in lots of lovely colours. We watched a video of her work before sketching our favourite flower on paper. Next week we are going to paint them. Have a good week from P1L.
Hi Primary 1l,
I really enjoyed reading all about the work you have been doing with your buddies on the Chinese New Year. It was the year of the tiger when I was born. Did you find out what it was the year of when you were born? Your buddies really enjoy working with you and I know that you enjoy working with them too. Keep up the good work, everyone.
Miss Henderson
