The run up to Christmas is a busy time in school and we are getting more and more excited as the days go by.

We had our Christmas Fayre last Saturday and it was a great success. Those of us helping on the class stall had the perfect opportunity to put our mental maths skills into practice as lots of people needed change when buying things.

Lucy M – it was a wee bit tricky because some people bought two or three things and I had to do my times table to work out how much money they owed.

Shaun H – it was easy to work out the change because I can add and takeaway in my head and we’ve been practicing that a lot in class.

Our topic work has been challenging this week. In our house teams each person designed a Trebuchet and we presented it to our group then we voted on which design to build. We then had to make a list of the materials we will need to make it.

Joe M – it was really hard to decide which design to pick because there were lots of good ones.

Shaun B – it was hard to think of what to use to keep the trebuchet stable.

Ava C – we had six people in our house team and we didn’t have a majority vote for any design so we had to present our designs again. We had to think really hard about what one would be the most likely to actually work.

We had our Christmas party on Thursday afternoon and we all had a great time. We would like to thank Mrs McClafferty and the support team for all the planning and hard work!

We are definitely ready for the weekend!!

  1. Hi Primary 5d,

You really have been working hard this week on your topic work. I’d like to see your trebuchet designs. I’m pleased that you were able to use your mental maths skills at the Christmas Fayre last week. A great way to practise what you’ve learned. You looked like you were having a fab time at your party on Thursday.

    Have a lovely weekend, everyone.

    Miss Henderson

  2. I really enjoyed making our trebuchet. It is really hard strachan hasn’t finished yet.

I enjoyed making our christmas decorations.

Our christmas party was really good i enjoyed playing musical statues.

  3. Yes it was fun having to re-design them and test them again. It was fun looking at other people’s trebuchets because they were really well built.
