Hello Everyone,
Please see todays suggested activity which is filing and emptying using house hold items – measuring spoons, buckets and water. This video will support you to develop your understanding of schematic play and how we can support this in a natural way. The children in the video are exploring the transporting schema as they transport the water from the measuring spoon to the bucket. They are developing a rich variety of cross-curricular skills including fine motor skills, mathematical language and independence skills.
Did you know …
- Pouring, shifting objects, and emptying containers are important cognitive exercises for your child.
- When children start this activity, they develop their knowledge that one object can hold other smaller objects.
- By filling and emptying from containers buckets etc , toddlers and young children learn about different shapes and sizes.
- At this stage, they can be taught descriptive language, full, empty, half full etc.
- By pouring things out of the container without help and support, they gain a sense of independence.
- By trial and error, they understand which object would fit where. They learn the difference between big and small in turn improving their orientation skills.
- Children can be taught positional language for e.g. put the duck beside, below, underneath, inside of the bucket.
