Hello Everyone,
Today’s storybook is The Same But Different Too which celebrates that we can all have so many things that make us different and that’s absolutely okay. It shows that it doesn’t matter if you’re big or small, if you’re fast or slow or if you’re young or old. The Same But Different Too shows that we all have differences and they are what make us who we are. The whole book is filled with colourful imagery showing people and animals in plenty of different situations to develop and support children’s understanding. The book is read by the Singing Hands Verbally and in Makaton Sign Language to ensure we support all learners at Woodhill ELC. We hope you enjoy it!
Did you know …
Children as early at 6 months old begin to recognise differences in skin colour and hair textures. Having open conversations with your child can help him understand, respect, and value not only the differences between people, but also the similarities that we all share.
Children are naturally curious. They will likely innocently point out a person who is different from them and ask questions about them. One of the best ways to help young children understand and embrace differences is to speak openly and honestly about the differences between people, and then follow up with a statement about how people are the same. Perhaps they have similar interests or traditions. All people have feelings like happiness and sadness, frustration and joy. With your support and a little encouragement, your child will be able to recognise and celebrate what makes everyone special.
Please email photographs or feedback to the nursery email or alternatively leave you or your child’s feedback in the comment section below, we value your contributions and look forward to sharing them with other children and families!
