Hello Everyone,
Here is the story the Ugly Duckling by Miles Kelly being read by Hazel. Children will love the story of the ugly duckling and his discovery that being different to everyone else can be a beautiful thing.
Suggested Activity:
- Have discussions about differences between characters in the story, some may be boys, girls, long hair, short hair, tall small etc, promoting inclusion and diversity.
- Sing 5 little ducks went swimming one day – encourage your child to count 0-5 and backwards from 5-0 developing their knowledge of counting.
- Sensory Play at bathtime! encourage your child to re enact the song promoting memory recall and role play skills.
Next steps:
- Encourage your child spot differences in family members? hair, eye colour etc. this could lead on to discussions around patterns on peoples clothing, stripy, spotty, flowery etc encouraging recognition of pattern.
- Encourage counting at home, count the steps, count pairs of shoes etc to further develop children knowledge of mathematical concepts.
- During sensory play with water encourage your child to discuss sinking and floating, by sparking discussions around what bath toy sinks and what bath toy floats developing their awareness of science.
