Hello Everyone,
Here is a story of Amy reading Silly Billy By Anthony Browne. The story is about a boy called Billy who is a bit of a worrier. He worries about hats and shoes. He worries about clouds and rain and giant birds. Most of all he worries about staying at other people’s houses. His mum and dad try to help, but still Billy worries … until a visit to his grandma’s shows him how to overcome his fears with the aid of his imagination – and some tiny worry dolls. We thought this story would be a great next steps from the activities and stories which have been shared in the past few weeks around promoting positive well-being and emotional understanding. We hope that these conversations are more natural to have and are becoming more frequent now as we have been providing lots of opportunities through our suggested storybook sessions and suggested activity ideas each day.
from this story you could …
- Make a list or mind map of worries your child has, encourage them to draw/mark make images of each thing.
- Create a worry doll with your child, this could be as simple as drawing on paper or using cardboard to draw around your child and make a child sized worry doll.
- Print off a template and encourage your child to colour it in.
- If your child chooses not to create a worry doll why not create a worry box or worry monster? you decide with your child what you feel is appropriate and of interest to them.
- Make marks of feelings and emotions on paper for example a smiley face – this is happy, sad face – this is sad and so on.
- Share likes/dislikes on the story.
- Create puppets using paper to create Billy and other characters, cut these out and cellotape these onto wooden lollipop sticks, straws or twigs from outdoors.
- Share a time when you felt happy, share a time when you felt sad and so on.
