Monday’s Storybook – Clan Minin’ – Celebrate Burns Day

Hi Everyone, We hope you all have a great Burns Night to celebrate our National Poet Robert Burns, To celebrate Burns Night the children at Woodhill ELC are being provided with a range of experiences, which will develop their knowledge of Scottish Culture and Dialogue. Here is a story called Clan Mingin’ which was read to us by Sharon. The story is about the Poor Clan Mingin who have no water to wash with, but Lord Much soon gets his comeuppance! The hilarious Scottish children’s tale is about the smelliest ‘clan’ in Scotland.

Did you know …

  • January 25 was Robert Burns’ birthday. It has become an occasion to celebrate Scottish roots, identity and culture along with Burn’s poetry.
  • Haggis is at the centre of the Burns Supper and it is delivered to the table by the sound of bagpipes.
  • Burns wrote a poem ‘Address to the Haggis’ more than 200 years ago in appreciation of the humble dish ‘Haggis, Neeps and Tatties’.
