Responding With Compassion
At Tinto Primary School & Nursery Class, we are proud to be a Responding with Compassion school community. Together, we believe that positive relationships help children feel safe, understood and able to thrive — both at school and at home.
Our approach is built on the understanding that behaviour is communication. When children feel worried, overwhelmed or unsafe, they may struggle to regulate their emotions and behaviour. By responding with calmness, empathy and connection, we can help children feel supported and ready to learn.
As part of our pledge, we aim to:
- See the whole child
- Use calm, respectful language
- Support children to regulate before we reason
- Stay connected and work together to find solutions
- Celebrate every child’s strengths and successes
We know that strong partnerships between home and school make the biggest difference. The information poster below shares practical ways families can support this compassionate approach at home through connection, listening, validating feelings and helping children manage big emotions.
Together, we can continue to build a nurturing school community where every child feels safe, healthy, respected, included and valued.
