20.3.17

It is nearly our Easter holidays and the days are flying past!  Our pupils have been involved in preparation for ECO week and have been showing off their marvellous ‘upcycling’ creations.  On display we have lots of amazing items such as lamps made from bottles and dresses made from umbrellas!  Earth Hour was on Saturday night and I’m looking forward to hearing about the candle lit evening our pupils had!

It was a busy week for Primary 7, which began on Tuesday when they delivered their STEM presentations on Waste Management.  They worked hard to research and create a very comprehensive presentation which they delivered professionally to our STEM ambassadors.  Primary 7s were also involved in the Hamilton Rotary Quiz on Tuesday evening where 8 schools from across Hamilton competed by answering questions on general knowledge, popular music, geography, riddles, local knowledge and recent news.  On Friday, our Primary 7s visited Holy Cross for their Team Building Day.  This was an excellent chance for them to get to know other pupils who will be in first year with them at secondary school.  A huge thank you to the S6 pupils from Holy Cross who organised the day, along with SLC Active Schools.

Pupils from Primary 5 – 7 also travelled to Lesmahagow on Thursday to compete in a South Lanarkshire chess tournament.  Our chess club runs every Tuesday after school and competing in tournaments gives the pupils the perfect opportunity to test the skills that they have developed.

Parent’s evening on Thursday gave our parents the opportunity to find out how their child is progressing in school and how they can help in their child’s learning.  It was also an opportunity for parents to see their child’s jotters and work on display in the classroom.  Room 4 also had an extra opportunity to show parents their work when they delivered their learning showcase on the Egyptians to their parents and grandparents.  It was a wonderful afternoon, where pupil shared their learning about the Egyptians and even tested their parents knowledge of heiroglyphics!

We were extremely honoured this week to be awarded  ‘Sporting School of the Year’ by Hamilton Sports Council at their award ceremony on Thursday evening.  This is a huge honour for us and is due to the opportunities that our pupils receive in sport through our P.E., extra curricular clubs and pupils own achievements outside of school.  A massive thank you to our staff and volunteers who give up their time to work with pupils in the many clubs we have.

One more week to go until our Eater Holidays and a busy week it will be!
